Gov’t Arrests 3 Former Defence Chiefs For Theft

Gov’t Arrests 3 Former Defence Chiefs For Theft

The joint investigative wings have formally arrested and charged three former defence chiefs.

These are former Zambia Army Commander Lieutenant General Wisdom Lopa, former ZAF Commander Lt. General Andrew Sakala, and former Zambia National Service (ZNS) commandant Major General Anthony Yeta.

The three have been arrested and charged with theft by public servant.

This is connection with the disappearance of the K1.5 billion meant for the operations of the three wings of the defence, namely Zambia Army, Zambia Air Force and Zambia National Service.

The three whilst acting together allegedly stole 1.5 billion kwacha funds meant for the defense wings for operations during and after the elections last year.

The three former defence chiefs have since been granted 50 million kwacha police bond each with two working sureties and are expected to appear in court soon.

Joint investigative spokesperson Charity Chanda confirmed the development to journalists a short while ago at Woodlands Police Station were they appeared

This shows that theft, corruption, selfishness and many more vices are basically found on top leadership in this country. It must be curtailed immediately.
The newlt appointed officers must also learn a lesson from their colleagues. Otherwise there is no one above the law, period.

This is beginning of another long and ardous court case that will take two years to prosecute, 2 years in total adjournments, 1 year in mentions, 1 year trial, 2 years appeal time. All this resulting in a total 8 years of delayed justice and K1.5bn in legal, logistics and various running costs, ninshi chaliileka nobukali.

    These are all former ‘something’.
If you guys know that u will not go anywhere regards persuing these cases STOP! before you add to that same K1.5bn.

Zambia army is the largest millitary body we have,ZNS and ZAF both fall in plce to form the zambia defence force. If these leaders are being arestd what we shud ask ourselves is wat impresion is it sending to the curent comanders?in 1997 a captain called solo shuk the nation by atempted coup.so what damage can a Lt General do if he decide to!once a solder owez a solder. These comanders should face th law bt nt being arestd by law rank policeboys
