The Zambia Episcopal Conference (ZEC) has called on government to accelerate the awareness campaigns and update Zambians constantly on the progress made with regards to the rebasing of the local currency.
In an interview with Qfm news in Lusaka, ZEC secretary General Father Cleophas Lungu said government must ensure that the process does not disadvantage the less privileged in society.
Father Lungu explained that people must be made aware of the implications of re-basing the Kwacha in the country.
And Father Lungu has called for the equal distribution of wealth in all parts of the country.
Father Lungu has since urged government to exploit the natural resources that the country is endowed with.
He says it is unfortunate that Zambia has remained a poor country despite being rich in natural resources further stating that the Patriotic Front government must fulfill its campaign promises.
Hopefuly the kwacha wil be stable.
rebasing wont change anythng at 0…
farther…and further…he said,come on!!
IF ADVANTAGES ARE MORE THAN DISADVANGES THEN ITs WORTH IT.
Rebasing the kwacha won’t change anything, it will just look better when Exchange rates are presented on Summit Tv (few zeros)
operating in base 100 and off base 1000 would be of long term benefit depending on the serious of economic drivers taking a noble course.
you pipo the only benefit will be that u will carry few kwachas in ur pocket as opposed carrying too much like in congo or zimbabwe.say if bread is now 5000,it will be 5.if your salary is 10,000,000 it will be 10,000.if a beer is 9000 it will be 9.thats all.no economical benefits.its just portability advantage and to just supperficially show the world that our currency is strong mean while the economy is collapsing.
Is this a priority? I just hope it is worth it. Because the amounts being spent are too much, especially that this money can be channeled to other more important areas. I stand to be corrected.
kwacha shud not b rebased if it is not depreciating cos number of knots wil b de sem wit only xtraction of zeros
It wil not add any value to the economy.u mean that is the resolution of our zambian economists, this is the disadvantage of leakage in schools, economists can not think.
I cant carry 20 million in my pocket,re base the Kwacha and portable it will be.
Let us watch and see may be it wil work.
