Senior directors from Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company whose contracts are coming to an end are living in fear that they may not be re-engaged following an indication from management that president sata’s core mandate of paying back to his supporters in last elections is favors and job offers.
One of the directors that spoke on condition of anonymity said Zambia has gone from bad to worst is who you know and not what qualification you hold. he has advised cabinet to limit employment his sympathizers.

Is this when you realising it…?
he should not employ cadres but he should go ahead and fire these water and sewerage people. this company is
the most incompetent in the country, They charge people with abnormal bills but water delivery is poor, there is too much money being eaten by the top officials at this company.
Jst fire these buggers. We nid serious pipo to run LWSC.
I didnt understand ths story anyway fire them and employ youths who rooming the stréets with degrées.
I conquer with the people who are calling for the firing of LWSC Directors. These people’s degrees have rewarded the country nothing.Zambian people are building nice beautiful structures all over the country but without proper water and sewerage sanitation. We would like our President to take this matter as a serious one. These people have failed to run this wealth company. Its a shame to see people putting up boreholes and sew cor ways within the same yard which is not hygiene for these domestic plots.Plots are given but no water and sewerage system. This company is different from the way ZESCO ltd is carrying out their duties country wide hence making more money. These directors have failed us.
Its should not only be LWSC even these other utility companies like chambeshi water and sewerage company in northern province.
the company is top heavy while it’s performance leaves much to be desired. if only they operated the way zesco operates, lwsc would been one of the richest compant around. but only directors are enriching themselves. places like kamwala south, ndeke and other developing places could have their priorities but alas! king cobra show your vernom
Please can this gesture be extended to eastern province, they too do not know what they are suppose to do,the company is not performing
Fire them their 10 minutes is over.
WAIT A MINUTE, WHY CRY FOUL NOW, MAYBE THAT’S THE SAME WAY THEZ DIRECTORS JOINED THE COMPANY. FIRE NON PERFORMERS MR PRESIDENT!!
RENEW THEIR CONTRACTS
he shuld also fire directors at Kafubu water and sewerage company
The LWSC has been hibernation for too long, let the directors go even if its cadres taking over as long as there’s change. Those have failed us.
for sure these guys shud be choped.the exercise shud even extend to swasco.they have a manager in chirundu who is very arogant.
Performance could have renewed the contracts for you. Running a utility company means one can even engage international firms to implement water reticulation; inccrease the customer base; and expand beyond imagination. Mr President, fire these chaps; useless non performers who always pride in seeing us queue for everything. Zesco included!!
I believe hiring and firing should be a fair act and not an act of malice. It should be based on merit and not mere hatred and regret from some sections of the society.
If LWSC Directors are incompetent, let their record of performance or lack of it be proved in the public domain in the same way their impending firing has been made public.
Is this what Zambia is about? Discussing people`s demises from employment and making a joke out of it? can we be serious and discuss real issues and leave personalities out of such an important forum? Cant we?
I may be completely wrong but reading some of the comments reveals such bitterness and hatred towards these Directors. I would hate to be correct on this one. Good luck Zambia.
Let PF not rush to employ cadres at the expense of qualified personnel. I think Lwsc have tried considering the rapid growth of the City of Lusaka.
One has to re-call few some years back ,not so long ago ,when water blues in Lusaka in areas like chelston, Avondale ,Woodlands ext.,Nyumba Yanga was EXTREMELY pathetic . Let PF give the present administration a chance or else it may be out of the fring pan on to the fire.
Renew their contracts but we need more effort from them. pipo in chalala are crying there is no water.
Fire the directors at NWSCO as well. The buggers are giving their friends fake consuktation charges….
I do not think this bitterness shown here is professional in any way. Those of you that have closely monitored service delivery will notice that LWSC has tried very well considering the rate at which population is growing. Some of you buy illegal plots and espect LWSC to be at your door step following morning, that is negative attitude towards development. I challenge all you colleagues who are calling for firing, check the world bank assessment of water and sanitation, then you will know how LSWC is perfoming, despite the challenges of your un regulated construction of homes.
I agree with Munkanta the world Bank has given Lusaka Water the thumbs up and it is highly suspicious that this happened if the Directors were not working. I recall listening to the Minister of Local Gvernment saying the problem with water supply in the city are a result of old infrastructure which was set up to support a smaller population those many years ago and we expect the infrastructure to be suffient support to a population which is now at least 5 times bigger than when the infrastructure was installed. Come on people can we start thinking outside the box.
Pack and go,remember guys that you are on contract.
In toga they say that chatakamana cakayosya
The real issue is that all these companies are failing to operate. MDs are engineers with little or no management or business skills. They fail to manage these companies. If possible replace them with people that have business skills.
Revise their conditions of service to be in line with the type of companies they run. Currently they spend too much on senior managers that expansion and maintenance of water systems.
If possible merge these companies to operate under one MD like ZESCO and serve money. Current provincial based unites can be run by Regional managers with streamlined conditions of service.
Under current arrangement, no comapny will ever succeed.
G Scott said it on the copperbelt that its the cadres who put him where he is and now he needs to reciprocate and give jobs. its not new.
These directors have tried under very difficulty circumstances. ( Low water rates,no re-investment…) Government must fund these ultilities at the moment, Renew the contracts and base them on performance only.
RENEW ON MERIT PLZ…, MY WORY IS THAT CONTRACTS FOR DIRECTORS IN MOST PARASTATALS HAVE EITHER BEING TERMINATED OR NOT RENEWED. GUYS BE PREPARED FOR ANYTHING.
Fire D’em
The truth of the matter is that LWSC can do much better if well managed.
The current Senior Directors just want to enrich themselves at the expense of poor service delivery.
Why is that LWSC can afford to buy senior management expensive personal to holders vehicles using the same low water rates ??
The PF government will not achieve anything with these water utilities if it maintains MMD cadres in these parastatls.
Just as MMD Directors were fired at ZESCO the PF government should put in new management to run these utilities
just fire the chaps they are too corrupt. this will also provide employment for young pipo instead of those guys who have enjoyed enough. guys its time you rested ala!!!! mulefwaya mulelya fye mweka ba kapoli. ………………..
Renew Only Contracts Of Competent Ones
they r inept, just sitting there in biig offies upstairs similing when people r buildiiing houses on top of the main water pipe from kafue to lusaka in libala south and lilayi
There are not being fired but not just renewing the contracts PERIOD.Why should you fear anyway because you are not permanently employed
wipe them all out and change the name altogether,ba sakala nyongo and busy employing family members.tribalism is also rife ku mulonga.out camaan!
Give them another chance let say another six months from now to redeem the water LWSC.The growing of population is also another thing can be looked at.
For all those that have posted comments, I suggest you rate thier performance on scale of 1 to 10. Probably will have a clear picture of “actual” performance
It’s not drawing them that’s slow, it gnteranieg themA few ways to improve performance would be: * precompute shadows for static lights and objects * only compute/render shadows from lights that might be visible on the screen (for big scrolling levels) Note that some ofscreen objects/light will need to be included in the algorithm to make it work well * for each light, only cast shadows from objects which are in the light’s range * any optimization that you would do in a physics engine, to avoid testing for collision between two objects, you can do in the shadows sample, to avoid computing shadows for some light/object pairsThere are probably a few other ways to increase performance, but the purpose of the article was to describe the technique
THESE PEOPLE HAVE FAILED TO GIVE US SERVICE. KWATU KU OMLYMPIA THERE IS NOT WATER. WE STORE IN THE EVENING FOR — USE THE FOLLOWING DAY. IF YOU TELL THEM THAT WE DO NOT HAVE WATER, THEY SAY GULANI BORE HOLE CHABE, BUT WHERE CAN I GET THE MONEY FROM. JUST IMAGINE THE ANSWER FROM THE WATER PROFESSIONALS THAT MEANS THEY HAVE FAILED. NO CREATIVE THINKING. AMEN
just go idiots. You are the same serpents that were giving money to the MMD.Who told you Zambia is short of qualified people to take over from you?
let these guys go. we are tired
Service delivery by parastatals is so horrible in this country. I can’t believe waiting for power for over two months besides being in the vicinity of the cable network. Let alone water, not even LWSC knows when they shall service Meanwood Ndeke village.
The new chaps should get to the drawing table and give us their plan of action. LWSC is a light-year behind the growth of Lusaka city.
Non-renewal of contract is not the same as firing. It is a grand opportunity to weed out non-performers without cost. There should be no second chance for non-performers – AND there should be no blames on history of small population and blah blah… 47 years and you still trying to live in historical terms?? Come on!! Pack up and go!!!
Good. But not only LWSC but also mulonga water and suwerage company atupesha maaaaaaaa!
I applied for water in august 2005 My house is between the road after CHELSTONE UCZ CHURCH and the road to DOLLY DOLLAR SCHOOL .Ihave made several trips to chelstone office coming out with only promises. I was fadeup until I had to sink a borehore . You will notice that, that is the area with no water from LWSC beyond that road water is there. NOW tell me why should somebody renew their contracts.I have the application form and I am able to challenge any manager at LWSC .My road is full of BOREHOLES near to our septic tanks becauses of this DIRECTORS FROM LWSC.
Now employ educated people please and give them more time not three months fired. The last thing to do is to privatise them all.
PLIIZ mr SATA TWAPAPATA, these directors and managers for LWSC have plaundered the company resources, now they have given themselves latest Toyota Hilux which were meant for operation.bought ISUZUS at K4,000,000. ISN’T THIS DAYLIGHT ROBERY?
