Dora’s Trial Fails To Take Off

Trial in the case in which former Transport and Communications Minister Dora Siliya is charged for abuse of office failed to take off in the Magistrates court on Monday.

This is because Ms Siliya’s lead lawyers were not in court.

One of her lawyers Lubinda Linyama has told the court that her client’s defence team will be led by Sakwiba Sikota of Central Chambers and Eric Silwamba of Eric Silwamba and Company.

Mr. Linyama has told Chief resident Magistrate Joshua Banda that the two lawyers were this morning not able to appear before court.

He has told the court that he agreed with the prosecuting team that the matter be adjourned.

Magistrate Banda has since agreed to adjourn the matter to May 23 but warned that he will not agree to adjourn the matter next time.

The Prosecution team in the case is comprised of seven state prosecutors led by the Director of Public Prosecutions Mutembo Nchito.

Ms Siliya is charged with abuse of authority of office contrary to section 99 of the penal code chapter 87 of the laws of Zambia.

In the first count, she is alleged to have directed the cancellation of a duly awarded tender for the supply, delivery, installation and commissioning of the Zambia Air Traffic Management Surveillance Radar System to Thales Air System of South Africa.

In the second count, Ms. Siliya is alleged to have accepted a free offer from selex Systemi Integatic S.P.A for the repair of a radar head at the then Lusaka International airport without following procedure.

As a result, the government lost almost two-billion-kwacha.

Dora is innocent Ukwa & company are only trying to be petty for nothing but personal reasons. Ask Justin Zulu he knows the truth & that’s why he fled the country leaving the report to be made by his deputy. More of taxpayer’s money will be wasted on tribunals.
