20-Yr-Old Wife Kills Senior Wife Over Mattress
A 20-year-old woman of Mumbwa has been arrested for allegedly killing another woman over a mattress.
The incident happened around 17:10 hours on Saturday in Chitampila village in Chief Chitanda’s area of Chibombo district.
Dr Jere named the suspect as Margaret Twambula who is the second wife of Oliver Mudenda aged 25. She is alleged to have murdered Mr Mudenda’s first wife Beatrice Hangoma, 22, over a mattress.
He said Mr Mudenda is believed to have bought a new mattress for the deceased wife, a move which angered Margaret.
Dr Jere said Margaret confronted Beatrice over the matter and after a bitter exchange of words, a fight ensued.
He said Margaret allegedly pulled hard one of the deceased’s breasts who in the process fell down and died instantly.
He said the body of the deceased is lying in the Mumbwa District Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem today.
Dr Jere said the suspect is in police custody and has been charged with murder contrary to Section 200 of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.
