3 Survive As Vehicle Plunges Into Lukanga Swamps In Central Province

Three people have been admitted to Waya Clinic in Kapiri Mposhi district after they survived drowning when the vehicle they were in plunged into the Lukanga swamps.

The accident happened around 09:00 hours today when the driver of the vehicle, a Toyota Hilux, registration number AAN 5409, lost control of the car along the road which runs beside the Lukanga swamps.

The three victims have been identified as Elijah Musonda 44, the driver of the vehicle from Kabwe, Ben Chileshe 35, and Monday Chileshe 33, both of Lukanga swamps.

The trio sustained injuries from the accident and nearly drowned.

The three men, who were trapped in the cabin of the vehicle, were only rescued from drowning while in the vehicle by the Lukanga swamps fishing community.

The fishermen, who witnessed the accident, dived into the water and rescued the three by breaking the windows to the vehicle.

The vehicle is still submerged in water.

Police could not confirm the incident because they had not received a report and had not yet reached the scene of the accident at press time.

Meanwhile, Waya Clinic Officer-In-Charge, Nalumino Mate has described the condition of the three survivors as stable.

Mr. Mate disclosed to ZANIS that the survivors sustained cuts and bruises in the accident and ingested some amounts of water.
