Another Lusaka Woman Killed In Unclear Circumstance

POLICE in Lusaka have picked up a body of a woman aged 23.

The woman identified as Mazuba Kapepwe,a mother of three of house number 22, Cedar Road, Woodlands is suspected to have been murdered in Chilenje Township.

Zambia Police Service deputy public relations officer Charity Chanda confirmed the murder in statement made available to Mwebantu New Media.

“Her body was picked up this morning(Tuesday) around 11:00 hours under the hedge near Namakau House along Chilumbulu Road,” she said.

Ms Chanda said Kapepwe had no physical injuries on her body though police suspect that she was raped before being killed because her zip was found open.

Ms Chanda said Kapepwe was believed to have gone out with an unidentified friend last night using an unidentified minibus.

The deceased’s body is lying in University of Zambia (UTH) Mortuary awaiting postmortem.

Kapepwe becomes the third woman to be murdered after Mbandu, the 19-year old National Institute of Public Administration (NIPA) student who was grisly killed in what police suspect to be a ritual murder.

Mbandu’s disfigured body was found in the early hours of Saturday on July 14, in Emmasdale residential area a few metres away from her mother’s house.

Her facial skin and eyes removed and police suspect the case to be a ritual murder.

This is not the first time that women are being killed in Zambia. Those who are old enough will remember the Lusaka strangler who killed more than twenty women in early 1980s. The main victims were women who stay in the streets late at night but also in some cases some unfortunate travelers who had arrived late at night at the bus station. That time Mrs Chibesa Kankansa was a government minister and she would go out into the streets at night telling young women to leave the streets because of the danger posed by the strangler. May I call upon the women’s movement to do the same given the fact that most of the time it is the women who walk alone at night who are killed. Please let us educate the young ones on the dangers out there instead of trying to sensationalize the issue.

This is the result of not doing a perfect job by our men and women in uniform including solomon jere. Why should we keep hearing such stories everyday surely?,just after ruth’s death they should have started patrolling the streets and arrest anyone found moving aimlessly at night.Ba Police wake up and bring sanity before these mad people finish our women. M.H.S.R.I.P

it high time the women movement started educating young women on the dangers of the so called “going out at night with strangers” it is a very sad development what is really happening in our country is not good at all…kiling one another like animals in the bush… shame on the office bearers who just want to have more money in their pockets neglecting the women whom evil men are take advantage of..

Lusaka is coming to an end! Sipalo killed prostitutes before jumping off findeco house. Dr. Jere, scrutinise the cases other than concentrating on Masebo family, Myles Sampa, another K29M pledge?
The issue is SORT OUT THE MURDERS before you fill up the UNZA mortuary.

to be a Police Man u should be 1. Dull 2. U should have a lot of unknowns. This case is typical. she boaded an unknown minibus. so who saw this “unknown” minibus?

we sick and tired of such statements. unknown killers driving an unknown car using unknown firearm at an unknown time and their number was unknown and drove to unknown destination after firing unknown number of shots. In the day they were drinking at an unknown location. driving an unknown plate number the car had unknown colour. yaba… Buju.

  28. PornStar   August 9, 2012 at 11:40 am

A lot of illogical reasoning yet again. When someone is killed it is the end of the world. I wonder what will happen the day a war breaks out in Zed and you peeps see bidies dying everyday like our neighbours in Congo do. Get a grip. These are probably isolated insidents. Nothing to get you going “The world is about to end”. Your friends in Rwanda lived through genocide, so did the slaves in passed times, so did the turks in constantinople. Imwe three random women die ati the world is going to end. Education is a beautiful thing but religious people surely lack reasoning. BOOOORING. Next story please.

  37. tallmike   August 11, 2012 at 6:37 pm

One contributing factor to this problem is that, zambia has seen an uncontrollable entry of foreigners.talk of n’gangas from ruanda, burundi, kenya, tanzania and many criminals from outside have found it easy to indulge in whatever activities they feel like.Govement has failed lamentably on this issue.Reintroduce clean ups which were carried out in the kaunda erra, otherwise we will be crying day in day out.
Immigration officers pliz this borders on you.pull up your socks.all this comfusion you see in Syria,Mali,Congo DR and Ivory coast.

Deaths in lusaka! The police lead by Jere have failed their duty bcoz what we need are serious patrols and police presence on our streets.Jere is busy recording Warn and Caution statements from accused polititians while our women die on the streets, this guy should be chucked out of lusaka police let him go sing in australia.Jere will landcruisers full of armed police to go and pick up a former minister during daylight and yet he can’t dispatch such forces to patrol our streets. Can this woman killer please kill solomon Jere as well maybe than the police will do their job
