Two children of the same family in Mansa have died after their father set on fire the house they were sleeping in.
Police Spokesperson Elizabeth Kanjela has old QFM News that incident happened on 1st September 2012 around 23:00 hours when the suspect Danny Saili who was coming from a drinking spree set his house on fire while his wife Grace Mwansa was fast asleep together with his two children aged eight and six.
Ms Kanjela says upon realizing the house was on fire, the wife to the suspect managed to escape with one of the two children, while the suspect went in to get the other one and was in the process burnt.
She however says both children died today 3rd September around 02:00 hours and that the bodies are in Mansa General hospital awaiting postmortem, while the suspect is under Police guard in Mansa General hospital and that his condition is still critical while his wife is out of danger and has since been discharged.
And Police in Mansa have launched a manhunt for a former convict who is alleged to have murdered his wife upon his release from prison.
Ms Kanjela explains that the incident occurred between 1st September 02:00 hours and 2nd September 07:00 hours at Musumali village.
She narrates that Benjamin Bwanga who was released from prison on 31st August found that his wife was not home and decided to follow her after being told that she had gotten married elsewhere, and upon finding her drinking he decided to drag her home where it is suspected she was beaten to death.
Ms Kajenla says the deceased’s body Gertrude Mwansa was discovered on 2nd September, 2012 covered in a suck and buried halfway in a ditch.
And Police in Kawambwa have arrested Joseph Chanda aged 25 for allegedly causing the death of his two year old daughter.
The child is believed to have been hurt when Chanda was beating his wife who managed to run away leaving the child behind.
The incident happened on 1st September 2012 at Lumpa village in Kawambwa district.
