Zimbabwe’s MDC-T MP Has 10 Wives, 57 Children

Being a senator comes with huge responsibilities, but for MDC-T senator for Buhera Samuel Muzerengwa, the burden is even worse. Apart from his constituency, he has to also take care of his 10 wives and 57 children. Sen Muzerengwa can easily become one of the most celebrated polygamists in the country and has no regrets about it.

In fact, he chides his fellow parliamentarians, saying at least he is a “better polygamist”.

Sen Muzerengwa said there are many parliamentarians with many other wives and girlfriends, but were not open about it.

“I openly married my wives,” he said.

“Some of my colleagues in Parliament pretend to be in monogamous marriages, yet they cheat on their wives, risking the spread of the deadly HIV and Aids.”

In fact, Sen Muzerengwa says officially marrying many wives can help prevent the spread of the deadly virus.

“Contrary to assertions that multiple partners spread HIV and Aids, this actually helps reduce the spread of the disease as one is confined to his official spouses unlike those in monogamous marriages who often cheat on their spouses,” he said.

“How many legislators are in Parliament and have one spouse, but are sick of HIV and Aids right now?”

Sen Muzerengwa, a member of the Johanne Marange apostolic sect, said he was a proud and able polygamist.

He said his “marriages” are covered by both the African tradition and his church’s doctrine.

“I have got 10 wives and 57 children and our church doctrine allows us to marry many wives.

“It is also part of the African culture for one to have as many wives as he wishes.

“I am an African, not a white man. I am a polygamist and that is part of our African culture as Zimbabweans.”

Sen Muzerengwa said his wives are happy with the polygamous arrangement.

“I give each and everyone of them their conjugal rights as and when they need them,” he said.

“They are now used to it and I do not have any problems at all.”

Sen Muzerengwa said his big family depended on agriculture for survival.

“We grow sugarcane, bananas and tomatoes. Besides, I am also gainfully employed,” he said.

Sen Muzerengwa said his marital status had nothing to do with his being a legislator.

He married all his wives before he was elected into the Upper House.

Sen Muzerengwa’s neighbours in Mawire Village under Chief Nyashanu said they were not really sure of how many wives he had.

Some claimed he had 13, while others said he had up to 21.

“He has quite a big number of wives,” said a neighbour.

“We do not even know how many children he has, but they are many.” Herald

Am told some people in Zambia now constitutes 55% of Zambia’s population. These are a breed of people who pretend they only go for one wife but how come they are many? Unless their sisters furrows like animals. Mpundu – mpundu but I doubt. These people kwapula very much. Look at the street kids. Muzerengwa is better off than pretenders in kolwestan kingdom.

This is a much better arrangement not zambian men who claim to have 1 wife yet they have girlfriends. When those girlfriends have children and the man dies, it is the children that suffer. So I think we really need to follow this zimbabwean tradition – besides, a woman reaches a point where she gets tired of bedroom issues – so later on in lofe the wife needs some kind of ‘help’ and this is where marying a second wife makes sense.

@This so called senator is even boasting that he is faithful to all his wives, shame. What makes him this that his wives cannot sleep with other men and contract HIV? This kind of thinking is really from the stone age. I am very disappointed with such kind of thinking. That’s why we find it hard to develop in Africa. It’s this kind of mentality. Shame on your balls Senator!!!!

@Janet c, I always admire your atticulation of issues. Yet on this one my dear, you got it all wrong. I beg to differ..Whether tradition or something else, we shouldn’t promote polygamous marriages. There are so many complications this will bring in the near future. As someone here alluded to, his children will start commiting things like incest, and the like. Who knows, even some bigger children may even start sleeping with some of his wives just to get satisfied and so on.. Yes some of the men with one wife will opt to get a spare wheel but they will be careful not to do it live. But when you know it’s your other wife, there is no way you will do it with a condom. And if she is not faithful, you end up contracting HIV. So it’s not really a plus to marry many wives.

@ The Terminator – I dis-agree completely. I know several married men with children with mistresses – are you telling me they use condoms. How many married couples have HIV because a huisband strayed and did not use protection!!! Let us be real here – Zambian men are very adamant to use protection, especially with ‘established’ girlfriends….and who suggested that all wives shuold stay under one roof – No! A man can mary many wives but each should have their seperate house in seperate neighbourhoods preferably – and a man better be wealthy enough to be able to provide the same for all wives. How many times have we heard of fathers, uncles molesting their own daughters, grand-duaghters, neieces – so your argumen is not valid

..besides zambnians are in de facto polygamous marriages so we need to protect all women involved (wives and mistresses) – otherwise, as things stand there is a lot of animosity amongst women in zambia – wives accusing girls of ‘stealing’ their husbands, etc – let us just legalize this – zambian like to live in denial that’s the problem!

My dear Janet C,is this really u talking. If this guy has 10 wives, leaving in 10 seperate homes and suppose he visits each one for a week. How long does it take for him to finish his rotation, roughly 3 months(70 days) my dear including his Mp tours.Meaning he meets each wife only 4 times in a year.Where is the marriage here and he expects his wives to be faithful just patiently waiting for him to come back.Yes we do have a girlfreind on the side but our Mp friend here doesn’t devserve your vote ba Janet C
