A thirty two year old man of Lusaka’s Kamwala South has died after consuming a traditional sex enhancer locally known as mutototo.
Arbton Phiri consumed the herbs on September 30 2012 and died on 1st October 2012 at the University Teaching Hospital-UTH- where he had been rushed for treatment.
Mr. Phiri started complaining of stomach pains before vomiting upon taking the concoction. Zambia Police Service spokesperson Elizabeth Kanjela has disclosed that John Banda a herbalist aged 62 of Kamwala south has been arrested for administering an overdose of the substance to Mr. Phiri.
And a renowned urologist Dr Francis Manda says the actual mutototo found in villages does not kill but the herbal medicines being administered in urban areas are a concoction of some leaves and western sexual enhancing drugs.
“It’s a fact that in the villages, mutototo exists and it is administered to young men who have come of age or are sexually weak, while in the cities, fake herbalists do it for money,” Dr Manda said.
He said a lot of people have died due to an overdose of fake stimulants, resulting in the prolonged hardening of the manhood.
