DEC Seizes Largest Quantity of Cocaine in Lusaka’s Chibolya Compund

The Drug Enforcement Commission-DEC has seized 301 sachets of heroin and 49 sachets of cocaine from a 25-year old Lusaka businessman who has since been arrested.

This is the largest quantity of heroin seized by the Commission this year.

DEC assistant Public Relations Manager Theresa Katongo says Frederick Chilembi of John Laing compound was arrested from Chibolya compound.

The narcotic substances were found concealed in transparent plastics under a flower pot.

Ms Katongo said the Commission has also arrested over 15 people countrywide for unlawful cultivation and trafficking in cannabis.

Those arrested include Charity Mtonga, 41, a peasant farmer of Nkalamu village in Lundazi district for trafficking in eighty two kilogrames of cannabis concealed in two polythene bags and William Zyambo,38, a peasant farmer of Viyewe village in Eastern Province for trafficking in seventeen Kilogrames of cannabis concealed in various modes.

Others are Clement Zyambo also of the same village for trafficking in cannabis weighing 11.3 kilogrames, Lawrence Nkhosi, 60, for unlawful cultivation of cannabis weighing ten Kilogrames and John Phiri,38, for trafficking in fifteen kilogrames of cannabis concealed in a polythene sack.

Ms Katongo said more than 500 kilogrames of cannabis have also been uprooted and seized in Chimata area of Siavonga district.

She says the suspect believed to have planted the drugs identified as whiskey Cheelo aged 40 is on the run and that a manhunt has since been launched.

All suspects are in police custody and will appear in court soon.

    Zambians and heroin… mwala pela kwi? Anyway the most junkies i saw was in Israel!! Tel aviv has a lot of drug addicts roaming the red light district of Neve Shanan!! Brothels, bars and drug consumers are the norm in that area.. even the clubs on Allenby street are packed with pill popping jews! If the holyland an do it who are you??

    What is wrong with smoking cannabis/dobo? Would we have gained independence had our four fathers not smoked it?
    These western guys realized we gained lots in this plant and decided to ban it. We have been brain washed on this one.
