The Zambezi Airlines has closed its operations, sources have disclosed.
According to sources in the company, the airline was closed on 19 October 2012 due to serious liquidity problems.
The shareholders are currently looking for equity partners to help them run the airline.
So far there are discussions with Sorenta Aviation of South Africa which is seemingly interested.
However, the sources say that these investors are concerned with the current large workforce of 100.
Sorenta reportedly operates a fleet of five planes (5) with a workforce of 36.
For the partnership to work, they have therefore advised Zambezi to reduce the manpower to 36 for the Zambia office.
Because of lacking money to pay new retrenchees and others that were retrenched in 2011, Zambezi has decided to close for a while to scout for resources.
The airline is expected to open in January 2013.
Meanwhile, the sources reveal that Zambezi sought to borrow from one of the Zambian based Nigerian banks, but the loan application was declined.
In the last closure bailiffs seized assets from creditors to cover their losses.
Airline officials were not picking their phones for clarification.

Why reduce labour to 36 employees? If Sontra has no resources to pay our people better they stay away than giving wrong decision.

Zambezi airline owners should just close the company completely and try a different line of business. Running an airline is serious business, and needs substantial investment. You can’t earn trust and confidence of the travelling public if you keep closing and re-opening your airline like that. There’s consistency, and so you can not be relied upon.

Zambezi should just stick to local flights and not international.I had the worst experience with that flight when i was leaving zambia goin to asia and it was my flight from zambia to SA.Zambezi was scheduled for 6hrs morning flight but delayed me we started off at 9,imaging how inconveniencing they are,i could have missed my emirates flight from south africa

Running an airline is business. So, if u get yr facts upside down, then u close. It’s business intelligence defects. How are other airlines surviving? These chaps aren’t cut fr business. They do not know where to tap.
