Geston Mwanza and his wife, Ann, are doubting the accuracy of the DNA test independently conducted by the National Health Laboratory Service of South Africa.
The DNA was conducted by taking human samples from the parents and matching them with those of the infant.
The test result was released on Monday in Kitwe and it confirms that Mr Mwanza and his wife are the biological parents of Ronika.
After news broke that the Mwanzas were the parents of Ronika, we expected the family to be happy that the doubts have been put to rest.
But in our edition we carried a story which added a twist to the whole saga thereby allowing for a new life of the episode on the Kitwe baby.
The Mwanzas, especially Mrs Mwanza, is convinced she gave birth to a baby boy and that is what they want.
We do not know now what else will convince the Mwanzas that Ronika is their baby and they should give her all the love she deserves, if they can dispute even a DNA test result.
To the Mwanzas, it seems, only a baby boy whether theirs or not will satisfy their curiosity.
It appears the Mwanzas are ready to shower a baby boy with all the love they can give the child.
We are not saying that the couple of Kitwe is not entitled to its rightful baby, if indeed the mother gave birth to a baby boy, but we are looking at the fate of the child under dispute.
Ronika will never know love as long as she lives with the Mwanzas.
She will be a reject throughout her life among the Mwanzas.
when she grows up to learn about this sad story, she will never be at peace with her ‘parents’.
We say this because the Mwanzas might be blessed again and this time around they may have a baby boy, and what would happen to Ronika?
We see a rejected child as the Mwanzas throw all their love and attention to the new baby boy.
Children are always inquisitive and Ronika might not be an exception.
Obviously, Ronika will need answers to why her parents pay more attention to her sibling or siblings when her concerns remain unattended to most of the times.
It is a notorious fact that no information remains hidden when it is already in public domain.
Ronika will no doubt hear about her childhood and this may affect her for the rest of her life.
But supposing this girl being rejected is indeed the child of the Mwanzas, as confirmed by the DNA result?
This is indeed a sad story which will forever cause pain not only to the child but also to the parents.
It is not a nice feeling to learn that your parents rejected you. It is not also a nice feeling to always walk the earth of Zambia believing that the child you live with is not yours.
But again, we ask; if the DNA cannot resolve this Kitwe baby swap saga, what will happen? It is indeed a sad story.

Yes! Although it will cost them an arm and a leg. They should do the test without govt intervention. Ba Tumfweko please stop giving us opinions hiding under news. Your friends who have been in this business for a long time present news separately from editorials and/or opinions.

Tonga Bull is right, bring the other couple and the baby boy so that we judge in addition to the Mwanzas and baby Ronika. We then can see which baby belongs to which couple. DNA can be swapped, who knows if the samples were from the baby boy and the Mwanzas.

There is something we are missing here. It is not necessarily the problem of scientific results or the fact that these kids were traded for some baby they think is not theirs. The problem is that we have run out of the currency called TRUST. With a lot of funny standards and poor professionalism, we are slowly slipping back to the age of superstition and mysticism at a very fast rate. I fear for our sanity! That baby will now be subject to abuse by her own parents because of the lack of TRUST!!!!!

November 30, 2012 at 9:50 am
some baby girls are born with a big clitoris that looks like a penis at birth, This condition usually changes after a few hours, the penis looking clitoris dissappears and becomes a perfect vagina.
But IN AFRICA WE HAVE A PROBLEM.
Can someone help those people understand the situation, instead of wasting peoples time and nerves.
take them to an internet cafe and let the google their problem and educate themselves a bit more about this.. There are just ignorant.

The question is the integrity of government institutions and the health fraternity at stake.
The situation if it favours the claim of the mwanzas-it will cast alot of doubts in the mind of the public and most will not be going to the public health centres. Its possible to kill one person to save and gain the trust of the majorities. I’m in full support of the Mwanzas

I wish our social services was more organised, it shud hav taken this baby from them & giv it to a childless couple who can giv her the love she needs.
I think the shud get help too, it cud be post-natal depression, or mayb the hubby wants a baby boy as men usually do.

I have always asked one question on this matter: How many babies were born on that day at the clinic and at the hospital? The numbers will try to resolve this problem. If nurses at the clinic are sure, as they claim, that Mrs Mwanza gave birth to a baby boy, where did the girl come from? This DNA thing can be a hoax. Mr Mwanza says he has got a written statement from the clinic’s maternity ward attendants who testified that her wife gave birth to a boy. So who is cheating who?

That report could be a fake report. Every woman who gives birth is shown her baby and the sex of the baby is the first thing she needs to know. Unless the woman was unconscious when giving birth. I smell a rat here.
Solution. The clinic and the hospital know all the babies that were born on the day Ronika was born. All babies who were born on that day as well as those who were born the previous day MUST undergo DNA tests. The right baby will surely be found.

Ba tumfweko you are right. this baby will never know love for as long as she remains with the couple. Take the baby to the orphanage then I can pick her up from there. I feel sad for the baby. The question the couple should be asked is :do you want this baby or not? if rejected, let the baby be taken by one of the nursing homes.
OR let the couple sacrifice a 2.5m to do and do a DNA themselves to prove the case. Whey did they name the child if they believe it is not theirs?
