This data is untrue…..among the Top 10 African universities, about 8, are from South Africa, University of Cape Town (UCT) is number one. Even world ranking, it’s the first African university to appear on number 102.

UNZA is not even on the top 1000 in africa. If South Africa has 50 universities then they take the top 50. If Egypt has 30 universities then it takes the next 30 followed by countries like Nigeria, Ghana , Namibia etc. Mwilaibepa bakapala. I am not a bit surprised.

the last ratings i saw unza was number 37,UCT(university of cape town was first) these Ratings are suspect, who compiled this list coz you cannot compare university of botswana to university of cape town or university of stellenbosch. but seriously you should not expect UNZA to be in top 20, you need a complete overhaul of senate’s mindset. they should be leaders in the nation in research. just look at the courses offered, no industrial relevance( am a former student there), CBU is thriving and at the rate they are moving, they will rank better than UNZA.

UnZa ? You are kidding me.It canT never
Dr. Alex Kasonde
November 30, 2012 at 12:49 pm
There is need to address the criteria where UNZA is particularly weak. These include critical teaching departments, such as African Languages and Literature and modern languages, such as German and Portuguese. These also include research output, through regional and international workshops, seminars and conferences. Above all, doctorates must be respected as that is the unit of measure for high academic achievement. If you have got a Master’s degree and you are openly challenging a PhD holder, that means that you are arrogant, ignorant and a liability for academic excellence.

No! Those top four he has listed are racist Universities. Their products are bound to be nuanced. Racist university study everything from a Caucasoidcentric position. Those are the Universities and schools that teach you that Christopher Columbus discovered America and David Livingston discovered Victoria Falls. South Africa’s black govt is trying to transform them but not succeeding very well.

There is no way any South African university not appearing on Top 10 in Africa, thats just Bull crap. I have studied there too, we know South Africa rules that roost. Color/race-centrism got nothing to do with the judgement, for example, UCT (uni of Cape Town) and stellenborsh are the best in South and definitely best in Africa, University of Botswana I see it every day is good in terms of infrastructure but quality wise is ‘just ok’ graduates are mainly half baked or so for international standards but okay for this conservative county (being a young country in development).

My brother you are one of the numerous puppets of Western brainwashing. Mental Colonialism has brought you up to think that progress is doing what Europeans do. So you think for a person to be educated he must speak English, your former colonial master’s language. Some of you think once you adopt a European name then you have made progress. You cant even dress in African styled clothing because you are ashamed of being seen as an African.
For your information the Universities in Japan teach in Japanese. The Universities in Russia teach in Russian, The universities in China teach in Chinese so why are you appalled at an African University that lectures in Swahili?

Higher Taller. Your platform about the Chinese, Japanese, Russian languages being languages of instruction in those countries where those languages are spoken is a fallacy. The languages are indigenous in those countries. Sadly, Kiswaihili is not indigenous to Tanzania. It falls in the same category as English, a foreign language!
