Nawakwi: Wynter Kabimba Is Above The Law

Nawakwi

Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) leader Edith Nawakwi says President Michael Sata’s defence of Justice Minister Wynter Kabimba who is under probe by the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) is a clear indication that the minister is above the law.

Ms. Nawakwi says it is unfortunate that even the order of protocol puts Mr. Kabimba, as PF Secretary General above the Speaker of the National Assembly.

She says ACC Officers are only trying to perform public duties on behalf of the Zambian people should be allowed to operate independently.

Kabimba

The FDD leader adds that any public officer suspected of corrupt activities should be subjected to investigations by the ACC and that the anti graft body need not to seek permission carryout their mandate.

She says justice should be seen to be done in the corruption crusade the PF government has embarked on.

On Thursday, President Michael Sata urged the ACC not to investigate his ministers through the media.

He further said the ACC should seek his permission before investigating senior members of the ruling Patriotic Front party.

What would be the purpose of investigating a government employee secretly? Unless, he were head of state. Sooner or latter it all comes to public domain.

@Kango Bufi ubo. Which part of investigations need Sata’s permission? I I steal govt money & Kabimba steals govt money, we both need to face the law! MCS just pronounced Kabimba as a SACRED cow. Dwarf though!

The real question is whether or not Wynter Kabimba actually engaged in corrupt practices while holding public office. To prove that, two options are open. The first one is to ask him as the ACC has started to try to do albeit with significant shivering and the like. The act that is still unfolding could still be polished in line with our own procedures in matters of this nature.

The second option is to ask the corrupting agent directly to prove its innocence. There after, it will be a matter of collaborating the two pieces of the jigzaw.

In my view, internationalization can only be justifiable if evidence (not rumor or perception) is overwhelming. In Zambia all are innocent until proven otherwise. Therefore cut no corners. Make no mistakes. One injustice is one too many. Any well founded doubt, say from a Head of State, is a basis for stopping the whole drama.

In any country where someone will begin to tell others that black is white and white is black then everybody in that country is a slave. There is something between Kabimba and the president which ordinary eyes cant see and ordinary mind cant comprehend.

The president said according to the Act (Or is it constitution) he is supposed to be informed (in confidence) if the ACC has cause and plans to investigate his ministers. As one who detests corruption he will give a go ahead in confidence and once the ACC prove their allegations then the action taken becomes public because the case has been proven and the president can ask the minister to step down while the case is taken for prosecution. If you ask the president to ask a minister to step down on every allegation, the opposition can use that weapon and accuse all ministers of some corruption or other and make the poresident fail to run government because every minister he appoints will be falsely accused and will be asked to step down. So MCS is right although I feel Wynter should have been humble enough, after making his point to go and be interviewed in private.

Abena PJ mwabepa. HE MCS said ‘to get permissio’ & NOT ‘to inform in confidence’. Your observation is perfect in a right case. In our case HE MCS has pronounced Kabimba & any corrupt top officials as Sacred ducks. We are doomed!

Things are unfolding themselves. It appears the crusade against corruption is for those who are not ruling or vulnerable civil servants, but for those in ruling party it is boma ni boma. But let me warn you that GOD you claim to represent is watching what you are doing at the expense of the ordinary poor zambian whose status you use during your political campaigns. Corruption is undoubtedly present thats why some people are being shield. May God deliver you corrupt leaders.
