There is a critical shortage of mealie meal in Kitwe town on the Copperbelt with those having the commodity selling a sack at K80,000.
A survey carried out in Kitwe found that most outlets such as Shoprite, Antelope, Olympic milling near Chisokone market and other supermarkets had run out of the commodity.
The commodity is being smuggled in the near by Democratic Republic of Congo whose demands has increased with a sack selling at K150,000.
More details to be updated soon..

Who’s responsibility is it to monitor this? It’s government of course! Let them curb this situation before it goes haywire.

i know tht tumfweko can sometimes tell lies but lets look at this story from a different perspective. i have noticed tht the shortages are either along boarder towns all those near to them. pupil smuggle all the mealie meal and remain with nothing to eat.a bag is fetching k150 who can resist such business though illegal?
