Jackson Mwanza Signs for El Merriekh

Jackson Mwanza has signed a 3 year deal at Sudanese giants El Merriekh.

Mwanza, who scored 11 goals last season for Zesco United flew to Khartoum on Tuesday and having passed his medicals on Wednesday, El Merriekh decided to offer the Kafue native a long term contract.

Though they differ in playing style, Mwanza has been signed as a direct replacement for Jonas Sakuwaha who was sold to Congolese giants TP Mazembe.

El Merriekh were impressed with Mwanza’s overall performance when he featured for Zesco United this year at an invitational tournament in Khartoum.

Mwanza started out as a wide man but had to adapt his game when he moved to Zesco United four seasons ago.He started playing as a continental no.10 behind a lone striker but at the start of this year, the returning Wedson Nyirenda opted to use him as a lone striker and the it worked out and ended up third overall on the goal scoring with 11 goals compared to Ronald ‘Sate Sate’ Kampamba’s 14.

On the international scene, he won his first international cap at the 2010 Cecafa Challenge Cup under then Italian born Dario Bonetti and his last came against Angola this year in a friendly match.
