Five opposition leaders this morning held a Press Briefing at the UPND secretariat at which they denounced what they termed Dictatorial tendencies by President Michael Sata and the PF government.
The opposition leaders bemoaned the continued denial by the Zambia police permits to hold public rallies.
The police are reported to have blocked the joint political rally which was supposed to be held in Mutendere Township in Lusaka this weekend by the opposition.
Speaking at the same occasion MMD leader Nevers Mumba said the opposition will defy the government until their fundamental freedoms are respected.
Dr. Mumba added that the opposition will fight until the last drop of their blood for the good of the country.
And UPND president Hakainde Hichilema said the opposition will not allow the PF regime to stand in their way in the quest to exercise their freedom of expression and assembly.
ADD Charles Mulope, Sakwiwa Sikota of ULP and Edwin Salaka of the ZDDM .

UNIP & PAYA FARMER no difference indeed. Can the president allow democracy not dictatorship. We want him to come for a press conference so that he can give us answers to the many questions we have for the head of state. His stay at plot 1 might be reduced to 5yrs only or less by his very closest friend WK. MARK MY WORDS.

It is imperative to call a spade a spade, I’m a staunch PF supporter, but on this issue I strongly say let pipo exercise their democratic rights. This scenario may induce curiosity in the public and lead to popularlity of HH or NM. When infact these 2 are politically under-weights. Kindly let them go ahead. Plzzzzzz

why should they be given the permit! this PUBLIC ORDER ACT was legislated by MMD. and for the police to allow them they should meet certain requirements. how can you be allowed to hold a rally minus stating the TIME, having known fully that the letter was suppose to be submitted 7 days before. i think it was delibarate move, and mind you SATA has nothing to do with this, the POLICE are exercising there duty following the law which was put by MMD.

Democrat and gweny, I concur with you 100%. The opposition should be given an opportunity to exercise their democratic rights, that’s why there is freedom of expression in this country and the opposition are trying to use the right channel. Why is the Zambia Police denying them a permit to hold the rallies????

Sata should not hold us at gun point, instead Sata should be more worried about the Army worms, this is a one step, making billion miles, am sure the government cant see the threat over these Army worms, he assured us that he will rule this country basing on ten commandments, now u will see, army worms where is the source, where did they start entering the country, am sure no trace, Twenty Thirteen, we will be alright, now twenty Fourteen, hunger will kill us, There are better problems approaching this country than stopping the opposition to just do a little talking, garbbage all over the shore, wait until cholera visits us. massive graves morethan 1986. I see danger, those who are talking have never seen sanit, they live in compounds, where they are surrounded by dirty, but what is the government saying about impassable towns, sorry sight indeeded, Councils, Police, National Service have been grabbed power of control, danger zone we heading too. Kabimba is another busy chasing people who made him to be where he is. WATCH OUT!!!

Well I do not know what else we expected from our comrades. If we xpected anything more than wht is obtaining then we are in for a rude shock. These people spent 10yrs in the opposition but were free to hold rallies and could sometimes abuse that opportunity issuing nonsensical statements. My word to the gvt is that the bells that tolled for MMD could toll for you because you seem to be so overtaken by the unexpected gift. Honour your promises and you won’t need to bar others from holding rallies.

Only a dictator will not allow people to assemble, will insist permission for his corrupt ministers to be probed, will demand ‘not to embarass my ministers in Times of Zambia’ , but cynically will let one twit of a minister (no seat) embarass colleagues elected by the people. As PF and logic person, its better to allow the opposition to have a rally. Denying them that freedom will make them win,. Sata won because of the touch his introduces in MMD and what MMD did to him. Libongani should think upright anyway that is the reason of getting a degree after the age of 23

The decision to deny the opposition party leaders a permit at this stage is the right one, what will HH, Nevers and others prove?
Concentrate on preparations forb 2016 instead of causing havoc, giving the police an excuse to lock you up or inevitably shoot you at a rally. (Ask Dr. Kaunda and Dr.Rodger Chongwe)

I LOVE THE PF BECAUSE IT IS THE ONLY PARTY THAT MAKES SENSE. BUT ON THIS ONE, I WISH TO DIFFER WITH PF OR IS IT THE POLICE.LET THESE PEOPLE HOLD THEIR RALLY. IT IS GETTING TOO MUCH NOW. WE ARE TOLD THAT THEY HAVE TO RE-DO THEIR LETTER. SURELY IF THERE IS GOOD-WILL ON THE PART OF THE IG WHY CAN’T SHE ALLOW THESE PEOPLE TO RE-DO THE LETTER WITHIN ONE OR TWO HOURS THEN GRANT THEM THE PERMIT. NO THIS IS NOT GOOD. MAY IT NOT BE SAID THAT CHANDA CHIIMBA THE III WAS AFTER ALL RIGHT.

Opposition guys, with or without rallies you can still find ways and means of speaking to Zambians.Sometimes public places make people to behave in a volatile manner depend on what message you have for the gathered people.please we all have the responsibility to take care of the peace we have been enjoying for the past years and no one should be allowed to bring anarchy just in the name of going to plot one.Freedom of speech should have limits. Not just because you want to speak boza and provoke peoples mind and urge them to kill or fight innocent citizens or bring chaos then you call that freedom. That is not freedom.Opposition political parties let us help govern this great nation and let us co-exist we are just one and we only have one Zambia.Time to fight is long gone.Look at our roads especially muma komboni these are real issues not who is appointed by the president from were.Let us work as a team to live a legacy which will stand a taste of time twapapata.

The issue is not about the police, they are just being used. Just try to have a conversation with the police in a relaxed mood and you will hear the truth. Orders are coming from State House and Ministry of Justice. I pity Zambians who feel Sata and PF are going to save Zambia. We are in for the worst reign this country will ever go through. Trouble is we forget very easily. Just recall the third term era and you will recall who this man really is. We now have a supreme leader who will do whatever it takes to cling to power though he is the rightful leader for the next five years. If you think it’s time for relief you are very wrong. Just take a visit to one of the local hospitals and you will see for yourself. We are in maningi trouble. For now many won’t see this because they are supporting the supreme leader, but just wait and see.
