Dear Editor,
Who are the FBIs? These are Former Black Individuals who has looked down on their natural beauty and embraced what is not original. Why do I call them FBIs? These are people who are not happy of themselves or their partners been natural.
I write on Zambian FBIs after I enjoyed reading comments on my previous article: “Women and their extravagant Beautifying Budgets.” I sensed mixed feelings and fights between men and women. Some accepted it has positive criticism. Others took it has an insult. Others took it as advice. In response, others did appreciate. Others offered insults. Insults will not deter me from proposing positive checkup on my brothers and sisters. Think twice before spending a lot of money. You will never be what you think you will be.
I repeat, insults will not deter me and will not take us anywhere. To you Zambian FBIs, I offer no apology. I will call a spade a spade. What is good, been artificial or natural? Men and women of good will are proud of you who beautifying yourselves. In beautifying yourselves, don’t scare us. Do not let the little ones scream upon seeing you, referring to you as ghosts. You may be proud of your looks, but I for one feel sorry seeing you suffer.
Are you happy been camouflaged in the name of beauty and modernity even if you use your moneys? How do you feel? What I see is sadness in you as Zambian FBIs with the following physical characteristics: orange face, orange neck, with no eye rushes, dark arms, dark legs, too much powder that someone hugging you risks dirtying shirt. Style and modernity! If its ladies, you look like snakes minus eye rushes. Men with so many earrings, you look like cartoons. You look immature exposing your undies in the name of fashion. Why buy big trousers that while walking you hold them? Does it mean they are no right sizes? It is childish mentality for someone above 20years.
Men and women, you never seize to amuse me. Having decolorized skins will not make you “white.” Having Brazilian or Indian hair will not make us one. We need to be proud of us. Modernity is not meant to destroy our originality. For me, I am proud to be called backward because while preserving my originality. My originality can’t inferior to the artificiality.
So, those who are busy beautifying yourselves by getting rid of your originality, think twice. You may use your moneys, but know that whatever you do will never make you what you think you will be. Even if a man can have sexual exchange, you will never be a female. Your hairs will never be Brazilians or Indian. You skin will never be “white.” Sadly as you run away from your original skin, you FBIs realize that you have no identity. What I see are Coke-Fanta zombies wanting to be what you will never be. Hence, I agree with the axiom, “An African in the quandary of wanting to please and feel accepted goes to an extent of destroying his or her beauty/original-ness. And later realize that what they thought will bring acceptance has turns against them.”
With no remorse, I want to tell our Zambian FBIs that they will never be what they think they will be. Accept yourselves and be happy. No wonder you run away from the sun because you know that your fakeness will be seen. Stop spending millions on what you will never be.
Concerned Zambian

Last year I felt offended when a white volunteer from UK passed a nasty comment on a Zambian Lady that with her wig she was trying hard to look like a munzungu woman even bleaching her skin. Seems slave trade really ate our self esteem. I wish we had colonised whites who knows by now they could be painting their skin black.

Lets be realistic; the issue here is not the English but, rather, inferiority complex which clearly the FBI have an excess of. And who says abbreviations can only stand for one thing? In Zambia there are at least 3 organisations represented by ECZ. Lets face it, skin bleaching is just sickening. Iam sure your spouces get home late and drunk just to be able to sand your sickening texture and, I might add, nauseating ordours!!

I did see sense in your last article but not this rubbish. You should reflect on what you write. Articles are meant to build and not this childish thing. Change career, we still need wheelbarrow pushers in this country, that would suit you.

Michael KTC I salute you! You have hit the nail on the head and that is the way to go! I have heeded your advice, I will stop bleaching my skin. Kids do scream it is TRUE, especially innocent babies, they even refuse to be held by a transparent vein fellow and wail out loud, wanting to be held by their daddy who is a natural!
And do not lose sleep over English, it is not your language! What is important is you have arrived home!

Former Black Individuals facinate me. I’ve come to realise that most of these women do this for attention. In their natural state, no man will pay attention to them. So they go to the extent of decolourizing themselves, which works as it gets the attention of men to see a light skinned individual, even though they may not be that appealing to look at. They also put these artificial hair from other human beings or animals or fabrics to try make themselves appealing. So not cool. It just makes them jokes.
Women, please stay natural. God made you in his own image and likeness. Live with it!

Trying to change ones looks to me is clearly a sign of self esteem. I have not seen a white person trying to look black. They offcourse try to improve there skins by exposing it to the sun but never go to the extent we go to for trying to look white…… There is a lot of sence in what you are saying my friend but try to tone down

There is a lot of sence in what you are saying my friend but try to tone down language. You sound like you have something against these people. Tha wont help the situation. If you truly want to help, pls sound helpful and not Sarcastic. Also Check your article before posting…. Good work can be rendered worthless with bad grammer and spellings. It is good work and provokes good moral discourse. Keep it up

LOL! if people want to ignore cancers, tumors, and all sorts of stenches that come with using lightning creams and from their own pockets? Let them, what my brother was saying is, why? didn’t we earn the right to be black after independence? why must we work so hard to look like the very people who are turning us into “wannabes”? Truth is, it is because of low self esteem and lots of western conditioning that we are this way, we are told everyday what beautiful is, what acceptable is and so on, sadly many of us have been been so attentive we have lost the most important part. Us.. be black and proud, the world is changing yes, but not all that is changing is applicable to us as a people.

Be real, be natural, be yourself. What is wrong with your natural beauty? I really hate skin bleaching/FBIs. Come on, stop this barbaric act.

Mon ami,
You need to learn the art of writing professionally and academically.
It starts with research, gather data. What is skin bleaching? Who does it? Where and among which people is it most common? Why do people bleach? What does the act of involve and what processes take place.
Next set of paragraphs should speak about skin bleaching in Africa. When did it hit Africa? Why did it get so popular and then drop in popularity?
Next: what are the main effects? How do they present? What are the side effects (psychological, physical, social)? How do they manifest.
Based on the data you have hgathered what generalisations can be stated about skin bleaching (pro and con)
Leave the reader to make up their own mind about bleaching, now that you have informed us.
Remember mon ami, a parahraph holds one idea, the openin sentence expresses the idea, the next gives researched evidence including references.
So now you have been told. Go and do a better job and ask an academic to proof read your work.
What the heck are “rushes”? Do you mean “lashes”.
Dude, please use a dictionary too, you will not be penalised for showing that you research your work.
Generally, you write like a country bumkin that was educated at some hinterland basic school by an untrained and semi literate teacher. Go look up the words grammar, syntax, semantics and vocabulary.
