The on-and-off international friendly match between Swaziland’s national team against Zambia’s Chipolopolo is on again – on January 5 in Johannesburg.
Initially Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) through spokesperson, Erick Mwanza had indicated two weeks ago that the friendly match was off but Swaziland’s National Football Association Chief Executive Officer Frederick Mngomezulu told members of the media that the game is on.
“The friendly match has since been confirmed and that’s why we are calling our players to report to camp,” Mngomezulu said.
He said even the national team Belgian coach, Valere Billen has had to cut short his holiday and returns to Swaziland on January 2.
Mngomezulu said the training camp expected to start tomorrow (Saturday) will be used to select the final 18-member squad to travel to Johannesburg next Friday for the international friendly match against the reigning African champions.
“We expect all the players to report to camp including those who are injured so that our doctors can have a look at them. The team will take a break on December 31 so that the players can be with their families but the players will report to camp on January 2,” he added.
Zambia’s Chipolopolo is already in Johannesburg and had its first training session on Thursday morning. Coach, Herve Renard has named a 26-member squad for the training camp to prepare for the AFCON set to kick off on January 19.
