Messi has won a record four times Fifa player o the year award

Barcelona and Argentina striker Lionel Messi has become the first player to win the Ballon d’Or four straight years after being named FIFA’s footballer of the year this morning.

Messi was named ahead of fellow finalists Cristiano Ronaldo of Real Madrid and Barcelona teammate Andres Iniesta to pass football greats Johan Cruyff, Michel Platini and Marco van Basten who all won the award three times.

Messi scored an incredible 91 goals in 2012, breaking Gerd Mueller’s 40-year-old record for most goals in a year.

American Abby Wambach won the Women’s player of the year award after scoring five goals in her side’s gold medal campaign at the London Olympics.

Coach of the year was won by Spanish national manager Vicente Del Bosque who beat out former Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola and Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho.

The team of the year meanwhile featured players from three teams and just two cities; Spanish sides Barcelona, Real Madrid and Athletico Madrid.

Miroslav Stoch of Turkish side Fenerbahce won the goal of the year.

Team of the year:
Goalkeeper: Iker Casillas
Defenders: Dani Alves, Gerard Pique, Sergio Ramos, Marcelo.
Midfield: Xabi Alonso, Xavi, Iniesta.
Strikers: Messi, Falcao, Ronaldo.

Imwe ba Tumfweko stop perpetuating European propaganda on us. “…breaking Gerd Mueller’s 40-year-old record for most goals in a year.” Theres no such record! Who keeps the records? Where do you find this record? Do you just have to say it because Europeans are saying so? We already have our case for a record straight from Kabwe! All Europeans must stop this nonsense! They should just say he scored 91 goals. No record

Lionel Messi is truly an exceptional player, his goal ratio and ability to destroy defences at will is legendary. But is he the greatest player of all time? I doubt it. Personally, Ronaldinho and Zidane had better technique and ability with the ball and always made you ask: DID YOU SEE THAT? They scored less but they were incomparable when on the ball.

Kabui wabetole, u are the one who is not normal you colonial puppet without brains! can’t u read my posting? What’s wrong with kabwe warriors? Just because your peabrained mind has been conditioned and enslaved to think eVerything good comes from europe doesn’t mean you are normal. It actually means you are such a mental slave you cant think for yourself! Therefore you are abnormal! The europeans have to think for you. What a numskull. Godfrey ucar chitalu forever!

I agree with you Ba Captain. You seem to be watching from HD 3D LED like me; picking all hidden moves not seen by ordinary guys watching black & white. While I am a fan of Messi he can not compare to the exraordinary skill of Zidane & ever smiling Ronadinho. These two had a wow factor in them.

91 goals and the season is not even over. And not just 91 goals but 91 amazing goals and moves. One must be insane to suggest he doesn’t deserve the award.Congrats young man. Ulebapikafwe including aba ku Man U even if I support them. Jealous down the guy can play ball.

      January 9, 2013 at 6:02 pm

The 91 goals are for a calendar year, not for a season. And if you follow your football 40 percent of Messi’s goals are from the penalty spots and free kicks. Unlike Pele who scored 90 percent from free play.

@ Ba Medza, which way are you heading, Messi to follow you!!? @ Rastaman, agreed but would agree more if you nominated Iker Casilas. He won those for Spain.

@ Chi Colour, use my bullet for Blatter, but Messi is great. Let the Argentines take him down themselves for not giving them Blatter’s medal.

Iwe Gonga @UCAR, only you and your teacher flanked…do not externalise your defficiency. Night school now uses electricity, you with your teacher can enrol.
