3 Family Members In Mwense Burnt To Death

THREE members of the same family including a three-month-old baby in Mwense District have been burnt to death after the hut they were sleeping in caught fire.

The incident happened on Friday at Kaombe Village in Chief Lukwesa’a area in Luapula Province.

Mwense District Commissioner (DC) Victor Kasuba who confirmed the incident, identified the deceased as David Mwaba, 32 and his two sons, three-year-old David Mwaba Jr, and Ilunga Lastone Mwaba aged two months.

Mr Kasuba said the family had gone to harvest maize from a field where they decided to make a thatched hut for camping because their house was far away from the farm.

“Mr Mwaba was with his wife and two children sleeping in the hut when it caught fire. When he realised that his house was ablaze, he went outside to look for some water to put off the fire but failed,” he said.

He said he then went back to get his wife Diana, who was still asleep with the two children.
