SPORTS Minister Chishimba Kambwili has said Zambia is planning to bid for the hosting of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
Kambwili said he believed that time was now ripe for Zambia to host Africa’s most prestigious football showpiece having participated 16 times in the AFCON competitions since independence in 1964.
He said Zambia, who won the 2012 AFCON co-hosted by Equatorial Guinea and Gabon, could not go on for almost five decades since gaining political independence without hosting the tournament, especially with the massive infrastructure coming up across the country.
In an interview in Luanshya yesterday, Kambwili said the ministry had in principle agreed to push for a Zambian bid for the 2019 AFCON finals.
He said he would soon present the matter before Cabinet for consideration and possible approval.
“In principle as a ministry, we have plans to bid for AFCON. We are targeting to hos

initiatially,2013 was awarded to Libya and 2015 to SA but due to the uprising in Arab world,Libya was not ready for 2013 and so they swapped with SA,so 2015 it is going to Libya.2017 is alraedy taken by another country…not sure..that’s why Kambwili is talking about 2019.good idea

this headline is very misleading ba tumfweko. The minister is merely suggesting then after that there should be an official bid to caf. Several countries actually push in their bids out of which the best bid is chosen and that country hosts the tournament. I am sure it is now clear. Let us not be excited at this initial stage.

Elyo lwanya nomba, but yaba entrance to the stadium in lusaka, shanties, there is no town in zambia that has dirt entries other than Lusaka. Mwae, on your way from Mongu, Kanyama entrance, on your way from Copperbelt Belt vinyalala pa mandevu shame, please before twenty nineteen, give the face of Mandevu face the famous stadium a good look, go to Kitwe and see how Buchi is covered, that would be best decision to cover the face of Mandevu before 2019. Congratulates zambia at long last. Nomba ba minister exercise too much, otherwise ulufumo ulo awe, elyo uchili mwaiche saana, nomba food.

@CNP-4U, with two stadia, we can host the AFCON. By 2017 we are assured of 4 state-of-the-art stadia; 1 in Ndola, 2 in Lusaka & 1 in Mongu. (All better than Mbombela) Meaning each group at a seperate venue. Ama Hotels yena fyani.

Sabi very good advice to Chidumbo Kambwili. I think we should put it in our constitution together with the degree requirement that all aspirant MPs must be below a certain Weight (80kg I think) We need a healthy parliament setting an example For a healthy nation
