Human Rights Commission Disappointed With Political Violence In L/Stone Which Led To Death Of A PF Cadre

The Human Rights Commission wishes to express disappointment over the continued unfair practices by different stakeholders, which in one way or another, may contribute negatively towards the holding of free and fair elections in the Mpongwe and Livingstone parliamentary by elections taking place on February 28, 2013.
The Commission, which had a physical presence in both constituencies during the latter part of the campaigns, notes with regret that clashes between and attacks on members of opposing political parties continued to be reported throughout the campaigns. It is most unfortunate, and indeed a negation of the democratic tenets which the multiparty system we have adopted stands for, that political parties, or some of their members, should believe in the use of coercion, force or instilling fear, as a way of gaining political advantage, particularly with regard to putting favored candidates into elective political office.
In this respect, we wish to condemn in the strongest terms the clashes between PF and UPND cadres which led to the death of one PF cadre on the night of Monday February 25. This being the second straight by election in which a life has been lost in similar circumstances, must give all of us extra resolve to bring to an end all violence during campaigns. Political parties and other stakeholders must make it a priority to sensitize their members on the dangers of violence because, if not contained, it can escalate and create protracted violent conflict.
As Police investigate the killing of the PF cadre, we urge them to be firm but fair and professional so that they do not end up making arbitrary arrests and in the process victimizing innocent people. The Commission is closely monitoring the situation and will update the public on any worthwhile developments.

That is true Mr. kasanka. The arrest of HH, Nkombo & Muntanga have no legal backing. Being leaders of the lunatics that killed a man does not directly imply that they sent them. First arrest the actual maderers then let them sqeal out the names of their masters. Only then shall you arrest them. Chances are that they are sacrificial pawns in the Kings gambit.

Its like this opposition leaders are above the laws of zambia.HH and the group are doing everything to frustrate all efforts this government is doing.HH knows every well that it will be hard for him to form government for the coming 20 years.UPND was formed before PF that means HH’s party has been in a opposition for more than 15 years with the number of MP’s now only in southern province,it will be very difficult for UPND to ask votes from other provinces if HH will not change his way of leadership its people who vote not what ZWD are marking this man keep on dreaming.
