Former President Rupiah Banda’s international lawyer Robert Amsterdam has described the lifting of his client’s immunity as a “farce”.
Amsterdam says he is disappointed but not surprised with the ruling party’s witch hunt against the opposition.
He has also questioned the manner in which the motion to remove Mr. Banda’s immunity was passed.
Amsterdam has charged that the speaker of the national assembly, Patrick Matibini allowed the motion to move forward despite repeated objections by some members of the house.
He states that the removal of presidential immunity is a serious matter which requires broad multiparty support but states that it was unfortunate bribed some opposition parliamentarians by appointing them as deputy ministers in an effort to exceed 50 percent of the total seats.
Amsterdam further states that the lifting of his client’s immunity is totally unrelated to justice but is merely a political strategy aimed at removing potential competitors to the success of an ailing president.

Less money in your pocket Amsterdam! I know exactly how that feels. You wanted all that he looted in yours! With luck, most of it might start circulating to the poor, e.g., building of bridges etc.

Chamubaba Kembo Amsterdam, too bad you won’t set your foot in Zambia you’ll be arrested you boot licker. You aren’t different from a whore. Lifting of immunity doesn’t require 50% of MPs,it only requires of atleast 1/3 of MPs.

@ Amsterdam, this time it will be fast not as it was with FTJ. I know you want some money from our former President, I can assure you the people of Zambia have learnt from the past mistake. Justice delayed is justice denied. Hear it from me, it will not go for 8 solid years!

What is wrong with Amsterdam? Are there no clients in UK? We have our own educated lawyers in Zambia and the LAZ president is also quiet about it. This idea of allowing foreigners like Amsterdam to interfere in our affairs brings problems Zambians. Let us not allow this. whatever happens amsterdam won’t be there. We can run our own country.
