Rupiah Banda Released On KR500, 000 Police Bond

220px-Rupiah_BandaFormer Republican President Rupiah Banda has been released on police bond, following his arrest this morning.

Mr. Banda, who appeared before a combined team of government investigation wings, has been charged with abuse of authority of office contrary to section 99 of the penal code sub 87 of the laws of Zambia.

He has been released on bond after producing two working sureties, who are MMD vice president for administration Brian Chituwo and his administrative assistance Mikatazo Wakumelo.

The former head of state has also paid KR 500, 000 in his own recognisance and will appear in the magistrate court tomorrow morning.

Speaking after his release, his lawyer Sakwiba Sikota says it is still very clear that the investigations team does not know why they are interrogating his client.

And Mr. Banda says he is ready to go through the entire process because he is a law abiding citizen.

And confirming the arrest and release of the former head of state, investigations team spokesperson Namukolo Kasumpa confirmed that Mr. Banda has also surrendered his passport.

Mrs. Kasumpa says interrogations will continue on Thursday, 4th April, 2012.

Total madness is when thieves are let on the loose and the due process of the law does not take place. Let HE MR RB Banda be declared innocent or guilty by our courts of law without undue interference from anyone. HE Mr RB interfered with Chiluba’s case. He confessed to doing that. He denied us Zambians an appeal to the supreme court in that highly questionable aquital in the Jones Chinyama Judgement.

Does the Police ever surrender this money to the state/government. We are in serious need of a toilet here in town center. Maybe they can help us by building some public toilets from that KR500,000. It is a tough job for us who work in bus stations.

This is a good thing for Zambia, we are proving to the world that no one is above the law in our country just like in most developed countries such as France and Italy. Rupia must be prosecuted for the wrong things he did while in office until proved innocent.

The arrest and prosecution of our dear former president is not persecution as many people are thinking. This will definitely clear his name of the allegations which we heard from the minister of justice. The mpundu’s account, oil deal etc are serious issues which the Zambian people want to know.AM APPEALING TO ECONOMIC VAMPIRE AMSTERDAM TO STAY AWAY FROM THESE ISSUES AS HE WILL LOOSE EVEN THE LITTLE RESPECT HE HAS REMAINED WITH.ZAMBIA HAS VERY QUALIFIED LAWYERS WHO ARE DEFENDING OUR FORMER PRESIDENT

In future let’s strenghthen checks and balances and procedures that can get a sitting president impeached and punished for abuse of office. Let’s nip bad practices in the bud before a situation turns into evil malignant cancer. Where are we when all these things are happening? Most of you have enjoyed the proceeds.
