THE Immigration Department has arrested three Nigerian nationals for allegedly being in possession of forged Zambian documents.
Immigration Department public relations officer Justine Siame said the trio was found with forged national registration cards (NRCs) and passports, and were using different names.
The three men have been identified as Olomide Akinloye Salako, alias Prince Kanangu, Mujere Ismail posing as Pumulo Nyambe and Oladele John Asarere masquerading as John Kanangu.
Mr Siame told journalists in Lusaka yesterday that the three men have been charged with concealing their identity and using false documents, contrary to the provision of the Laws of Zambia
“The trio entered through Kenneth Kaunda International Airport on January 25, 2013 and while in the country, they allegedly forged NRCs and Zambian passports,” he said.
Mr Siame said when the Nigerians realised that they were being pursued by the authorities, they attempted to flee the country but they were intercepted and arrested at Chirundu border post.
“They are currently in detention pending investigations and prosecution,” he said.
Mr Siame also said the department is holding 44 immigrants who were arrested in Lusaka over the weekend during a conducted joint “sting operation” with other security wings.
Among those nabbed include 36 Tanzanian Masais, five Somalis, one Congolese, one Rwandese and an Ethiopian.
Mr Siame said the immigrants are being held for abrogating the provisions of the Immigration and Deportation Act number 18 of 2010 and will appear in court soon.

The sources of forged passports are passport offices themselves countrywide. This problem has been there from UNIP days and the culprits always get away with it.In other countries, this is a very serious offence and once prosecuted, the jail sentences are severe. What is wrong in Zed?
