Government Stops Rupiah’s Kenya Trip

Former Zambian President Rupiah Banda’s attempt to travel to Kenya this morning for inauguration of Uhuru Kenyetta as that country’s president thwarted by Immigration officers at the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport.

Mr Banda who obtained a court permit to have his passport released by the State to enable him travel for the inauguration ceremony of Uhuru Kenyatta.

The former head of State was stopped from travelling to Kenya this morning around 09:00hours by Immigration officers acting on instructions not to allow him leave the country.

Mr Banda lost his legal immunity from prosecution recently paving the way for his prosecution on corruption charges committed during his three year reign as republican president.

He has been summoned by investigations agencies on several occasions who are still trying to slap him with more charges of corruption.

He wanted to leave at 9 hours when the inauguration program was starting. It is something else he was going for, possibly to meet his son and lawyer.

9hrs Zambian time is 11hrs Kenya time – this is 2 hours into the inauguration time.
Plus 2 to 3 hours flying time, and 1 hour of airport formalities in Kenya, and 30 minutes drive to the stadium – which inauguration was RBB going to attend???
