Dear Editor,
Solwezi council workers are now stealing from taxi drivers for wrong parking, obstruction and overloading by charging K20 to K50 for the alleged offenses.
The council thieves are not even issuing receipts. Doing business with a taxi is now difficult as taxi drivers we are being abused by traffic officers, RATSA and now council workers. Since when were these people given such powers?
There are a lot of unemployed youth who are trying to earn a living as taxi drivers. Can the PF government intervene and protect these young taxi drivers who are trying to give a service to the community instead of engaging in stealing and drinking.

The point in this writer is whether council workers are allowed by law to slap those charges. Secondly, if they are allowed why are they not giving receipts and is the money accounted for? Why not having a fixed charge? Much as I know that some taxi drivers are a nuisance, the traffic officers in Solwezi are very corrupt especialy including women. Investigations have progressed well on these rotten officers and Heads will roll soon

The council authorities are not mandated by law to carry out such inspections.Solwezi is an upcoming copperbelt and everyone thinks they should use dubious means to attain wealth .The traffic police officers are so corrupt that they have made going on the road a business to fatten their pockets and those of their bosses. What a shame. The role of the police is to maintain law and order ,not to inflict pain on the people. its high time taxi drivers rioted in solwezi. Its too much of the police traffic officers. Are they not paid salaries?
