Accept My Child Or We Divorce, Lusaka Woman Dares Husband

A 26-YEAR-OLD woman has sued for divorce in the Lusaka Boma Court because her husband has not accepted the child she had with his best friend as his step-son.
Maureen Sepiso told senior court magistrates Lazarus Mwape and Linda Tembo that she can not continue to be with a man who has refused to accept her child as his step child.
“My husband does not want my child and my relatives, since we got married. We always differ because of the child and when he comes back from his drinking spree, he beats me and chases me from my matrimonial home,” Sepiso said.
She said her husband accuses her of having an affair with another man when it is him who married another woman after he chased her.
Sepiso said her husband did not respect their marriage as he would bring his girlfriend to their home, adding that his other wife shouts at her and asked her why she wants to be with her husband when he does not love her.
In his statement, Joe Hamaka told the court that his wife’s former husband was his friend and that he married her after the two separated.
“I married her when she fell pregnant for me but she already had a child with my friend,” Hamaka said.
He said all was well in their marriage, until problems started when his wife started drinking beer, patronising night clubs and bars and spending nights away from home.
Hamaka told the court that his wife would always make an excuse to go and visit her parents so that she can have all the freedom to patronise night clubs and bars.
He said they had earlier come to court for reconciliation but his wife has still not changed her behaviour saying this is the reason she wants to divorce him so that she can be free to do whatsoever she wishes.
The matter was, however, adjourned awaiting judgment.
