Dear editor,
I was taken aback when I saw the front page picture of the Post newspaper and wondered what quality of debates we expect from delegates who spend their time sleeping on duty?
Ronnie Shikapwasha was sleeping during deliberations at the final consultative stage of the Constitution-making process at Mulungushi International Conference Centre on Wednesday as shown on the front page picture of the Post newspaper on April, 11, 2013.
It was amazing that during tea break, Shikapwasha was very active with a plate of snacks. The question is; Is he as a delegate attaching the seriousness and importance the Constitution-making process deserves?
Let all delegates attach seriousness to this final process because as a nation, we have spent a lot of money on the Constitution.
All the citizens of Zambia (13 million) have confidence in the delegates to deliver. As such, seeing pictures of dosing delegates make us very sad.
It is so sad that after sleeping at the end of the day, such people want to be paid shocking allowances in addition to their already ballooned salaries in an economy so poor like ours!
It is high time our politicians began to understand that the country has no money to waste. Let us avoid wastage because when someone is sleeping on duty and getting allowances, it means we are wasting money!
