Christopher Katongo and James Chamanga shine in China to light-up a mixed weekend for Zambia’s overseas based stars.
Zambia captain and striker Katongo scored the opening goal in the 17th minute for leaders Henan Jianye on Saturday in their 2-0 home win over eighth placed Shenyang Shenbei.
The goal was his third of the season from five games played in the Chinese second division as Henan chase a quick return to the top flight following their demotion in 2012.
Henan are unbeaten on maximum 15 points from five games.
And up in the Chinese first division on Sunday, striker Chamanga found his scoring touch for the first time in over a fortnight for fifth placed Liaoning Whowin with the final goal in the 64th minute in their 3-1 home win over seventh positioned Hangzhou on Sunday.
The goal was his second for his new club in four games this season.
In Europe, striker Jacob Mulenga had an agonising 90 minutes on Sunday in sixth placed Utrecht’s 6-nil away loss to 13th positioned AZ in the Dutch Eredivisie.
And across the sea in England earlier on Saturday, striker Emmanuel Mayuka was back on the bench for the first time since February 24 for Southampton but did not play in their 1-1 draw against West Ham.
In Portugal on Friday, defender Emmanuel Mbola failed to make Porto’s reserves team in their 4-2 away loss to Trofense.
Also on Friday, striker Fwayo Tembo played the 90 minutes for his Romanian club Astra Giurgiu who slipped to third from second after losing 2-1 away to 10th placed Gaz Metan Medias.

Bane let’s face it, Mr Katongo is not finished yet. He just needs encouragement and should focus himself on the game to fine tune. He is a strong guy, the type we shall need for the Ghana game. The Ghana game will also be expected to feature the the ‘bullying’ of Sakhuwaha.
