LATE Musician Ackim Simukonda’s ‘Ichipondo Chandi’ track was brought to life in the Lusaka Boma Court when a 30-year-old woman narrated how her husband brought into their matrimonial home his lover whom he purported to be his cousin.
Faneli Banda told senior court magistrates Mable Mwaba and Mary Namangala that her husband, Boniface Liyungu, 32, made her give up their bed and beddings to accommodate the guest, who immediately took over the running of the house.
This was heard in a case in which Liyungu of Mtendere sued Faneli of Chawama for divorce. The two, who got married in 2002, have two children, but Faneli has four other children from her previous marriage.
Liyungu told the court that he could no longer tolerate Faneli’s behaviour as she was fond of pulling his manhood each time they were fighting saying it was too small and therefore did not satisfy her sexually.
Faneli told the court that out of respect for their guest, she gave up their bed together with beddings and did everything in her powers to impress the ‘cousin’.
She said Liyungu started treating his ‘cousin’ like the woman of the house and preferred to leave instructions of what he wanted done with her.
“He became irritable and would easily start a fight over nothing then beat me up and lock me out of the house until the next morning. I used to spend nights at the neighbour’s house.
“That went on for a while until his ‘cousin’ opened up and told my neighbour that she was actually his other wife and that the reason I was usually locked out of the house was for the two to have sexual intercourse,” she said.
After the revelations, Faneli said she confronted the ‘love birds’, that did not dispute the affair but instead pounced on her and sent her packing to her parents’ home.
She said it took intervention from both families to reconcile them. She said after reconciliation, Liyungu started bringing condoms into their home even when the couple never used protection.
“When I asked him about the condoms, he said he uses them with other women as he is looking for another woman to marry because I was not educated enough for him. He even started working double shifts claiming we needed the money yet he never got a cent,” she said.
Faneli told the court that she knew Liyungu was in a serious relationship when he started going home with his pubic hair shaved.
“He came home on three occasions shaved on his private parts and that was when I confirmed. He said he was looking for another woman to marry because I am not as educated as his girlfriends,” she said.
Faneli said he has tried everything in the years they have been married to frustrate her so she could willingly leave his home but she refuses to go because she still loves him and will fight for him.
“Despite everything, I still love him and would rather be in a polygamous marriage than lose him completely to another woman,” she said.
But Liyungu told the court that he has never been happy in their marriage because Faneli is a physically abusive woman who is in a habit of pulling his manhood as a way of over-powering him.
He said apart from physically abusing him, Faneli was also fond of using traditional herbs. He even presented the herbs and some of his torn clothes to the court as evidence.
“This woman does what she wants in my house, she comes back late and yet beats me and starts pulling my manhood when I ask where she has been. That is the reason I moved in with another woman because I wanted a peace of mind. I no longer love her,” he said.
The court adjourned the case for judgment.

It is a debacle which requires a quick solution…the wife should go on a sabbatical leave to allow for self reflection. The man’s cousin should also vacate, quickly.

This woman went in with this man as an act of desperation. “Despite everything, I still love him and would rather be in a polygamous marriage than lose him completely to another woman”. Hehehehe, what kind of a woman cheapens herself like that???
