RTSA Must Continue To Monitor Minibuses Closely

Bus Accident ZambiaDear Editor

I want to commend the   job that RTSA is doing in making sure that road traffic rules are followed. Many minbuse drivers have continued to abuse road traffic rules. They are even parking in the highway and  calling for customers to get in their buses. At Arcades Shopping Mall along the Great East Road  is just one example I can give, minibuses often pack in the highway and they usually reverse their buses when they are full. What if heavy duty vehicle was coming from behind? and they don’t even think about about the lives they are carrying.

I think Road Traffic And Safety Agency(RTSA) should deploy some officers around such premises to avoid future accidents.

Concerned Motorist.

Good road traffic management start with good record keeping, good vehicle registration, recognised addresses for vehicle owners, and good trained drivers with good road ethics. With these in place,we do not to have many traffic officers out in the city chasing bad drivers because it expensive. All drivers who violet traffic rules will just be written to either for a fine or to report to nearest police station. If this becomes our culture it will help many drivers to become careful as to where they drive stop and park. The citizens have the right to report and bad drivers with evidence say picture of the vehicle reg number and the incidence. Now everyone has a phone making reporting bad drivers even easier.

I do agree with you. we do not need so many officers on the roads, get vehicle details correct and computerize monitoring of road users. it will be difficult to offer bribes because the offence will need to be properly closed in a computer system. please lets spend more by deploying surveillance systems.

The problem causing so many accidents are so may, the only problem is, we seem not to solve any.For example the process to get a drivers licence is just too long.Imagine you have to go to lilayi thereafter you go to ridgeway. To make things worse, only one point to get a drivers licence out of all the population of Lusaka. That is why you find many people make short cuts by bribing officers and get their licence even when they are not yet competent to drive.

But why are GRZ cars not checked on these so called Road blocks? They cruise unnecesarily and do not obey Speed limit signs and even on speed traps.what’s so special about their drivers ? Are they the only ones late and their cars always road worthy. Come on officers , do the right.
