Zed Hip Hop Diva Phales Kasongo aka Brisky is aiming to take Zambian music to the next level.
Being one of the few female Rappers in the country has decided to go hard core as she feels that one has to be tough if they are to make it in the industry.
She said this in an exclusive interview after she gave an electrifying performance at Lusaka East Point Discotech, and that she will be releasing her 12 track album called ”mfwiti mugame”.
She further said that she was involved in a talent search a few weeks ago and she discovered three rappers who will be availed to the public soon. She said she will be shooting videos for her latest songs Burning, Ilila itambika, Wynn for me and she called on her funs to give her the support she needs.

Advice for Brisky -( its free)
Be authentic, be a Zambian rapper, you look like a cheap imitation of an American rapper. Here’s what you could do:
1. Lose the wig
2. Rock an Afro, you’ll be noticeable
3. Lose the pose, get a professional photographer
4. Get some hip African outits (they can be sexy)
5. Make sure you get a non-whorish backdrop for example the Vic falls

M, It’s advice – it’s not meant to excite you.
As for the punk era, wasn’t too impressed by it myself, talk about the disco. era though!!! ( being deliberately facetious here)

There are some real beauties in Zambia – the problem is that mainstream media models beauty on caucasian characteristics. For example, long flowing hair, which leads to the wearing of the most hideous unnatural-looking wigs and weaves by Zambian women.
I have seen dark-skinned, long-limbed, shapely Zambian girls. Large milky-white eyes with teeth to match. On top of that, gazelle-like grace when they move. Hair short and unprocessed. Mmmmm – hmmmm.( And I’m not lesbian)

Thanks Ba Kakolwe. I just googled Angelique Kidjo. Her soulful picture on the cover of Vanity Fair is beautiful.
Makes me think of other greats like Miriam Makeba, Dorothy Masuka, even our own Jane Osborne when she used to sing “Muza muona”. Kidjo lists Miriam Makeba as an influence.
I tend to appreciate performers that strike me as authentic. For example I’d rather have Tracy Chapman or Joan Armatrading any day, than Beyonce. I guess it’s personal preference.

THE ONLY LEVEL OR NEXT LEVEL WE YOUNG GENERATION ARE TALKING ABOUT IS UPLOADING HALF OR FULL NUDE PHOTOS
OR SHORT SEX CLIPS
ON THE WEB AND
MAKING NAKED MUSIC VIDEOS.WE BELIEVE THAT
IS THE ONLY TO GET FAME
AND BECOME CELEBs.
BUT PEOPLE LIKE TRACY CHAPMAN,JUDITH BUCHER,TINA TURNER,IVONE CHAKACHAKA,PONGO LOVE(DRC), Mrs CHALI AMAYENGE,JANE OSBORNE…..HAVE MADE THEIR NAMES BE KNOWN IN THEIR OWN UNQUESTIONABLE WAY.
@ Make Sense, I SHARE YOUR PREFERENCE,NOT THESE OTHER ‘ALREADY SOLD THEIR SOULS TO THE DEVIL’ ARTISTS BUSY HYPNOTIZING THOUSANDS FRAGILE AND DOCILE HUMAN BEINGS.

I am not young, but think how some Bands, for example The Beatles have lasted and are appreciated across generations – they are authentic.
Same with some of the Zambian performers. They will always have a following. But if the sum total of your legacy is a wig and standing provocatively, enjoy your 11 months of fame because that’s all you’ll have.
