EXPOSED: Prof. Oliver Saasa Spills Beans: We Fired Prof. Clive Chirwa a Few Weeks Ago
Professor Oliver Saasa a fired Zambia railways board member has spilled the beans for ZR CEO Prof. Clive Chirwa on Muvi TV’s the Assignment program Monday night.
BELOW ARE HIS WORDS
The board had fired Prof. Chirwa a few weeks ago, we were just waiting for the appointing authority.
He lied that he used to get 2 million British pounds when infact he used to get 13,000 British Pounds.
We asked Prof. Chirwa for 3 references because the only thing we know is what he says about himself & whats on the internet.
Prof. Saasa says not even the VC at Harvard University gets such an amount.
“He’s presenting a picture as if he is such a rich man”
Prof. Chirwa wanted to single source his dormant company owned by his wife & kids, thats against corporate governance.
“I do not believe, looking at his credentials that Chirwa is competent. He is a novice”–Prof. Saasa
“Last week, the Minister himself was very upset with Chirwa & he told us Chirwa should be fired”–Prof. Oliver Saasa.

Awe ba Chirwa baletumona ukushishita fwebena Zambia. Thats what happens when a villager goes to Europe: he starts thinking he is much cleverer than not only his village but the whole nation. Prof Saasa is a cleverer guy than this Chirwa

How does a sober man start single sourcing for ZR from his family business? Nitulo twa bwanji utu? If you are making the kind of money Chirwa is wanting why do you want to involve yourself in corrupt practices? Unless you are super greedy!

Hope the appointing authority can learn a lesson from the revelations made by the dissolved Board members. Surely there are many other locally based professionals who could have revived ZRL rather than bringing Prof Chirwa from overseas. K250m monthly salary, 6 air tickets annually, 25% shareholding in the Company plus other entitlements.. more than a financial scandal fellow Zedians

Iin my opinion professor saasa is a man worth his salt compared to professor Chirwa. His consultance firm makes money we’ve seen the building but professor Chirwa we just here from people who like him

It is not true that a university professor in the UK can earn £13,000. Those are salaries for school leavers and people with no skills.

£13,000 is for the poor here. Average salary in the uk is £26,000. I leave you to work the maths for a professor

Fyabufi iwe Mark kabolala. Have you taken a reseach of how much other CEOs get in other companies? That figure is a lumpsum of every benefits he gets in a month….fuel,sevants,guards,school fees for children and many others which were agreed upon. Now Mark what are yu complaining about when you know the value of such positions. The problem is that conmen are always afraid of being coned. So he thinks professor Chirwa is a conman …No nonono..the conman is you.iyi yena tawalye!!!

I agree with the good prof. that he came to ‘help’ but a person that comes on such a mission does not ask for so much! Your colleagues in the western world have been cutting salaries and bonuses to be seen to be contribute to the positive growth and performances of their companies…this ZRL is running on borrowed funds!and is one of the few public assets of the nation, the whole 13 million of us have a share in it how can you go to bed so happy that you alone are taking such a huge piece of the cake, are you truly Zambian? When I heard that you were coming back I was filled with joy that our own talented and well schooled brother probably worthy to be a top leader was coming to pay back to his Country, sir I feel cheated and would ask of you to slash your ‘justified’ pay or please resign and go back ‘home’ you are probably better off there.

K205, 819,132.33. If Sola you are right an equivalent of GP26,000 is about that figure, So if Chirwa was asking for 250,000,000, makes sense to me.

There’s nothing like Prof Saasa felling jealousy you people! The Board comprised people like 3/4 PSs and other distinguished personalities and not Saasa alone. Prof Chirwa is milking an already thin and feeble cow. May be we should wait for the ACC to complete its work thoroughly

People lets be realistic and not run to conclusions. These issues would not have been there if the Government engaged a MUZUNGU. Chirwa deserves all his entitlements, he is not only learned but experienced and exposed.I think Ba Saasa is just jelous because a fellow prof is getting than he is. Needless to say, the man is not from the village for you to give him any other accomodation. What i know is that before anyone is hired,there are terms and conditions. How come those terms are an issue now? If the conditions were enormous and unrealistic, they should have not hired in in the first place. Period

How interesting to hear Prof. Saasa talk of Professor Chirwa as a novice. We know how Saasa got his professorship from UNZA through his tribesmen, Mwauluka and others, and their tribal cousins without nothing much to show for. Saasa cannot even compare himself to Chirwa. Saasa has not even supervised a single PhD, despite being a professor. Chirwa has supervised many PhDs and MAs,has served as external examiners for PhD and MA students, has published many articles in internationally recognized peer-reviewed journals has written several books as against Saasa’s only one known book. Chirwa has also presented papers at many international conferences. In addition, Chirwa has contributed to a number of innovations in engineering apart from just writing. People should visit the Bolton website and see for themselves or google Prof. Chirwa and see his contributions in the world of engineering. Saasa should not try to disparage such an accomplished man’s achievements for which he has even received international recognition. It is cheap of Saasa to do that especially that he would want others to see him as an intellectual. Now Musokotwane in their usual tribal way of dealing with matters has jumped to Saasa’s defence.

So this board would be very happy to have a white man (no harm meant)take over Clive’s position even if he is paid twice what Clive is getting. We need to get serious as a nation and look beyond our stomachs. This board as can be seen has already failed the zambians. The evidence is the position of ZRL and its performance in the last few years.
