So This Is Zambia, ‘The Christian Nation’

FINALLY, the National Constitutional Convention has resolved to retain the Christian nation clause in the preamble of the Zambian Constitution. From a spiritual standpoint, this declaration is untenable.
Standards of Christianity cannot be realised through a legal instrument but rather through the voluntary surrender of one’s soul to the changing agency of the Holy Spirit.
A declaration of commitment to Christ should be personal because you can only bind yourself to the will of Christ. The best you can do for the rest of your countrymen and women is simply pray for them.
If you declare a nation Christian even when others do not appreciate its transforming power, you end up with a nation full of hypocrites!
The only public declaration of a Christian nature that is based on the Bible is the baptismal ceremony.
Through this ceremony, the individual proclaims to the world the standards by which he or she should be judged by and it is preceded by the transforming power of the Holy Spirit.
State power has not been employed for the advancement of God’s word even if that was His original design when He created the Nation of Israel.
Following the Jewish rejection of Christ as the Messiah, God redefined the term “nation” to mean those bound together by their acceptance of the sacrifice He made on the cross.
To declare a piece of land Christian is therefore a failure to appreciate the biblical teaching of what constitutes a nation.
It might look innocent, noble and well-intentioned that the Zambian Constitution should have a Christian declaration clause, but history has demonstrated how church and state relations can unleash some of the most deadly attacks on freedom of conscience and, in particular, the freedom of worship.
During the period that has gone down in the history of mankind as the ‘Dark Ages’ between 500 AD and the 16th century, the world recorded some of the worst violations of freedom of worship that no one would ever want to see repeated.
The state-church relations made these violations possible. Under a mistaken notion that uniformity and conformity to a particular form of worship and set of doctrines could bring more unity in the Roman Empire, the dominant church leadership sought the powers of the state to enforce obedience thereof.
And yet, the church leadership at the time had just become covetous of secular power and sought worldly privileges that come with it.
That part of human history may be in the distant past, but human experiences always repeat themselves over and over again.
The most important lesson learnt from that episode is that when human beings refuse to embrace Christ’s preferred method of spreading His word, consequences for human beings are too ghastly to contemplate.
For those familiar with the inquisition in Rome (where and when minority Christians opposed to the popular teaching of the time paid with their lives in ways hard to imagine at the hands of fellow Christians), they cannot imagine that a generation like ours, that is supposed to be well-schooled in history, can willingly set for themselves the same trap into which others fell.
Zambia needs a religion-neutral Constitution so that Christians, if they are serious about their faith, may preach Christ unaided by instruments of the state.
You do not want the devil to accuse the Christian God of having given Himself an “inbuilt advantage” over others.
“If you did not threaten my disciples with arrests and imprisonment, I would have persuaded all Zambians to be homosexuals and proved to you just how unjust a God you are”, the devil may now argue as a result of the ‘declaration’.

In my last remark, if my memory serves me well, I did say that, we are trying to cling onto the declaration because of the fear of the most devious rules that might follow henceforth. We are not all blind. We fight because of the very closing remark you have put up quoting the devil:
“If you did not threaten my disciples with arrests and imprisonment, I would have persuaded all Zambians to be homosexuals and proved to you just how unjust a God you are”
Now, are you not agreeing that the devil has lost declaring zambia a fagot? He had fare chance, but he has lost at National Level; even at individual level he has lost!

The views expressed in this article have been as well for a ver long time. Im a Christian myself but Ive never felt comfortable with this Christian nation declaration. If you really think about it it doesn’t make sense

ok realy this article is somehow difficult to u understa but as for the writer,am not happt with what you have written about the devil accusing God bla bla …the God we worship is the same only that you christian have given him a son and call him a trinity while we still stick to the one and only God.how can satan accuse God?do not thinkof God so low,you are the same people who say God rested on the seventh da,God does not get tired for him to rest.your article at the end has realy gotten me upset.satan is Gods creation,do not think he has got powers a d so much authority to question the creator.after all humans are better than him,i the beginning when God created man,he told all the angels including that satan to kneel down before his new creation.its because that satan refused that he was cast out and became Satan.so man is better than him,i not thi k he has so much power,he is even .over than u.

No, you misunderstood the writer; it was merely a slip of his tongue that he let out a secret. It is just that the quran is different from the Holy Bible. If the Quran has writings about Job and how Satan demanded of God to let him tempt Job, then you can understand the writer.
From where am standing, I think he is on your side, except he let the mouse out!
The devil has always been the accuser and tempter of the brothers, period! If Allah did not die for his own people and Jesus did, who is greater?

On the other hand, how do you suppose they earn their funding? With Zambia being a Xstian Nation and the ending debate about homosexuality, they have to find other ways of paying their hefty salaries!

The declaration of Zambia as a Christian Nation does not necessarily mean that all Zambians are Holly and do not sin! It simply means that GOD HIMSELF will take full charge of our country, or in short its like handing over our country in the HANDS of GOD. I wonder why many people including the so called educated ones, are confused with the declaration of Zambia as a Christian Nation.
People who are truly Christians are happy with the declaration of Zambia as a Christian Nation. The writer of this article should avoid misleading the people of this Land ZAMBIA by making them doubt the declaration Zambia as a Christian Nation If you do not want GOD to take control of our country, who do you want then? That’s an assignment for you’

@Muslim, what makes you think God did not rest on the 7th Day? Please note that we use the Bible and the quoran. So do not judge God’s own statement using a book that is written backwards as if to oppose God’s direction which only the devil does.

The declaration of Zambia as a Christian nation is full square. the Bible will always be respected in our courts of law. prayer in public meetings will always be allowed and respected. the freedom of worship coupled with religious liberty will take center stage.
Christianity is not a group of holy men and women but rather a group of sin sick men and women who depend on Christ’s righteousness to accepted by the sin hating God. Christianity is extremely accommodating that is all the reason why you see all kinds of criminals running to Jesus for grace.
yes Christianity can easily and dangerously be abused like it has happened in the past in some countries but what hasn’t been abused, marriage has been, women have been, children have been, there criminals in uniform, so what is it really that disqualifies Zambia from being a Christian nation? nothing.
