LUSAKA, Tuesday, April 23, 2013 – His Excellency, Mr. Michael Chilufya Sata, President of the Republic of Zambia, has suspended Zambia Railways Limited (ZRL) chief executive officer Professor Clive Chirwa pending investigations by the Anti-corruption Commission on allegations of corruption levelled against him.
In his letter to Prof. Chirwa dated April 22, 2013, President Sata confirmed that he has suspended the ZRL chief executive officer due to several corruption allegations levelled against him.
“… I am suspending you from duty and you will be on half pay; and as part of other conditions you will have to vacate the lodge and wait in the Zambia Railways Limited accommodation until the matter is completed,” read President Sata’s letter in part.
“By copy of this letter the Anti-corruption Commission has been instructed to carry out full investigations concerning the allegations of corruption.”
And President Sata has with immediate effect appointed Ministry of Transport, Works, Supply and Communications permanent secretary Dr Muyenga Atanga to take charge of Zambia Railways Limited.
“…this will require you to take charge of the Rail Line including the Inter Mine Rail, which is so critical to the running of the mining sector,” directed the Head of State.
The PF Government reiterates its commitment to revamping the railway network that results in a rail system which will create the necessary economic drive.

I hope this will not be a legal circus…the board says they fired Clive….Clive says he is not fired…the board is disolved by the minister who ststed that he would have Clive fired..the President suspends Clive…
If Clive is Clever he could resign before he is fired coz u cant fire someone who has resigned….it is illegal at law…worse still if you have accepted the resignation.

Bravo to Sata and PF for showing you commitment in fighting corruption. You have shown that no one is untouchable when it comes to your fight. And I so disappointed to to Prof. Chirwe and those board members who are so learned to have disappointed the president and us the people of Zambia who entrusted them with the responsibility which them have abused. Why is those learned men behaved in that manner. Shame on you. To my president I say go go

“How interesting to hear Prof. Saasa talk of Professor Chirwa as a novice. We know how Saasa got his professorship from UNZA through his tribesmen, Mwauluka and others, and their tribal cousins without nothing much to show for. Saasa cannot even compare himself to Chirwa. Saasa has not even supervised a single PhD, despite being a professor. Chirwa has supervised many PhDs and MAs,has served as external examiners for PhD and MA students, has published many articles in internationally recognized peer-reviewed journals has written several books as against Saasa’s only one known book. Chirwa has also presented papers at many international conferences. In addition, Chirwa has contributed to a number of innovations in engineering apart from just writing. People should visit the Bolton website and see for themselves or google Prof. Chirwa and see his contributions in the world of engineering. Saasa should not try to disparage such an accomplished man’s achievements for which he has even received international recognition. It is cheap of Saasa to do that especially that he would want others to see him as an intellectual. Now Musokotwane in their usual tribal way of dealing with matters has jumped to Saasa’s defence.”

“What I know is that before anyone is hired, there are terms and conditions. How come those terms are an issue now? If the conditions were enormous and unrealistic, they should have not hired in the first place. Period.
Those who disagree undermine the decision of the appointing authority altogether.
So even if he is corrupt or crooked, jerabo or whatever, that fact is that this contract was signed and both parties agreed. Full stop.
That is why you have been making careless mistakes of putting conductors and farmers into statehouse and then start crying later…”

This is beautiful. The crime Chirwa has committed is the revelation of of where some PS/ministers are staying enjoying the tax payers money. Saasa is dull. He doesnt even understand how that contract was signed. Our useless president acting because someone is trying to strict.Shame
