Most Foreign CEO’s In Zambia Get Not Less Than US$35,000 But Why Crucify Prof. Chirwa??

Dear Editor,

Hide my name,

I work for an international mining company and i have ideas of how much the people brought into Zambia as expatriates get as salaries. US$20,000 (KR 110,000) is for the low guys such as accountants. Foreign GMs get more than US35,000. This very real for those of you who may be ignorant.
I totally support Chirwa when he says that salary is within the range of what is prevailing world wide for similar positions.

We have to always remember that for each county to develop, it has to make its own millionaires and THATS THE REASON WHY SATA GRABBED ZRL, ZAMTEL and etc so that we start also getting empowered with high salaries (off course only where we work hard and results are seen).

I know for sure that the CEO for ZAMTEL could be getting a salary within that same range. Why no talk? we know for sure that most of the executives in Zambia are getting not less than US$15,000.

Let Chirwa get that much, he is setting a good prescedence for me a young man to come and get a good salary provided i deliver and the results are seen.
THE COUNTRY CAN ONLY GO FORWARD IF IT MAKES ITS HOME GROWN MILLIONAIRES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ba Banda have you ever worked in big company’s and see how much these top guys get as there pay? If Zambians are sincere, they should protest against all CEO`s who get close or above what Chirwa was offered.

CS, please understand that working as CEO for a mining company is very different from working for a company like ZRL. Chirwa should not be compared to those CEOs in mining companies because mines make huge profits while ZRL is just being rehabilitated. That is why Chirwa was told to sacrifice because he was taking over the running of a company in ICU.

My thoughts exactly! ZRL is not making any money at all,so where do you expect the money to pay the Chirwas and the board those huge salaries?let them work first and they will reap later! If they do not want, leave so that people who are ready to sacrifice can do the job, simple!

no one is saying he shouldnt get that much; at the moment ZR is not making any profits and we all expected him to work towards that and not to start making unnecessary demands…until ZR starts putting something on the table, only then can he make such demands. Gives us examples of CEO’s earning that much in a waking up organisation?..

The problem our country has is the culture of poverty. People are so used to little money being poor. Big money/salary is beyond there imagination. Its unacceptable for a fellow Zambia to get or have a lot of money. That’s why any successful Zambian business man is accused of Satanism. Zambian rejoice when a person fails in live the hate success. Prof Chirwa is a success and there are not more than 20 Zambians who are really successful out of a population of over 12m.

How much is Renard getting and what results are we getting? Just because his white? Let him claim that so that he starts working towards his salary. If he fails then we will have all the reasons to fire him. I love his negotiating tools. He doesnt run cheap and cheap is expensive….. Bravo Chirwa

The problem I have with this Chirwa of yours demanding so much is that the money will come from my pocket to pay this thief!!! I am not prepared to see my hard erned money go to him when he was not there when we were fighting for “Buntungwa”. The chap was an economical refugee!!!! I educated him when his “ZHOPA” was freezing in Moscow!!!

The pull him down syndrome and political interferance is rife in Zambia.

Look at the state of ZR nw, how much Revenue do they generate for them to afford to pay a salary of that amout to Prof Chirwa?? All the money they have now is borrowed (eurobond) it is money that needs to be used wisely or risk havn atha industries to suffer when helping paying back if the money is all used up on Clives salary and bonuses! ZRL can not afford him hence the need to offload chirwa! How do u xpect a firm to operate when its Total costs are way higher than its Revenue! Lord help us and grant us (zambians) with wisdom

First, i doubt the sicerity of a board member who goes to the media to discuss the salary of another professional. I sense something is wrong. For those of you saying the salary is too high, kindly check how much the ZRA and Bank of Zambia CEO are getting. Lastly i think Clive was seriious about remodelling ZR.. Problem is Zambia is not ready for that change. By the way, can Sasa reveal his pay to the public so we compare.

The same goes for all those chritcizing prof Chirwa. They cannot see themselves achieving what he has achieved and the best way to make themselves feel better is to chritisise. Such people hit the grave early with hate and jelousy.

I now know why ZRL wants $1 Billion, Chirwa must have calculated that him alone needs $2,976,000 after 5 years (assuming he doesn’t get any increment). Honestly, how much does ZRL need to make in profit terms to sustain this level of overhead for only one person before we can even talk about other employees, overheads and paying back the debt?

The board/people fighting Prof Clive Chirwa are simply being used by the elite business tycoons in the transport
sector. What this means is that, onced the morden rail system is fully implemented they would be a sharp colapse of
of business in the transport sector. Transportation of Oil, Minerals, food products, humans and in general
import and export will all be left with the new TAZARA.

The advantage of revamping this sector is that, it will definately reduce the cost of doing business. For instance,
Lumwana mine will be able to export its minirals direct from solwezi to either Tanzania or
South african sea ports. A farmer in zambia regardless of where are, will be able to sale their maize in time without
waiting for time waisting trucks to carry their produce. The other benefit is that our roads shall be spared from
unnecessary damages on which the government spend billions on repair works.

Then the salary for prof Chirwa is just okay compared to the benefits that poor zambians shall get even our countries economy as a whole.
The 25% demanded is a bit on the higher side but its a good idea, am sure those in business will understand.

In conclution, Chirwa is fighting big forces beyond his complehension. i just pray that his excellency the president helps him through.
As we all know, is the Man of Action.

you nincompoop. ZRL is a struggling company that has been brutally raped by foreign investors over the past years !!!!!!. the company does not have any major money spinning products at the moment and are simply running on savings from some well placed inherited assets from Cecil Rhodes! You cannot surely compare it to a large mining firm with a a turn over of over 500 million-1 billion USD. that’s just ridiculous and defies the rules of bench marking!!!!!! what ZRL needs right now are people willing to sacrifice to get the firm up and running before they can start ripping huge benefits like big pay checks. Learn from the late Steve Jobs. The man worked a year for a dollar till Apple was back on its feet. Am not saying Clive should get paid a dollar but surely can we please see some effort to bring the company back to life with a little sacrifice!!!!!!!
