This is Professor Clive Chirwa and the Zambian government dream that may be shattered by a few selfish political players who hide in the name of being learned and claim they are great. If Zambians don’t change their attitude towards their fellows, we as a nation we shall NOT develop.
The people in the forefront of condemning and crucifying Prof. Chirwa have been there for so long and NOTHING positive has come from them apart from Fattening their pockets.
Why did the government engage Chirwa if they agreed to his terms and conditions of the contract??/ The appointing authority should be blamed because terms were agreed.
A case study is that of Herve Renard, the national soccer team coach..Renard gets a whooping $100,000 per month for drilling and training 22 Zambians and no Jim and Jack has come out condemning this BUT a fellow Zambian is engaged to carry out a mammoth task, he is crucified. It is saddening as a nation and like that, we shall not DEVELOP as a nation.
Kalusha Bwalya was getting $10,000 as the Zambian Coach, people crucified him the way they have done with Prof. Clive Chirwa. Harve Renard is geting $100,000 that is 10 times what Kalusha was getting and people are not making noise about it. If Prof Chirwa was white, would the people make the same noise they are making now, does it mean we do not appreciate our own people?

Yes we can, this is nothing but autocard tailored. Kids do design these things including planes etc. This is computer graphics and not substantial evidence to support his audacity to run ZRL. What I can conclude from this is that it was supposed to be a one man show, I know it all and only me can design the trains and run ZRL as CEO. Too much for one person.

Sata is intelligent. He knows that Clive is OK.He knows that if he does not subject Clive to ACC then the critics will continue making Clives work difficult.
However,25% stake in Zambia railways is way too much. That should be reviewed.

Shibobo my man you’re right Sata knows that Clive is innocent but without subjecting him to the ACC it will be like allowing corruption.I repeat the way i said yesterday regardless of what is happening at ZR proffessor Chirwa will remain the most outstanding proffessor with alot of exponser to the world over. Just look at his design. They say a man without ambitions is as good as dead.If there were no pipo with ambitions of inventing the flying machine, up to day there would have been no aeroplane. One should aim high and that is proffessor Clive Chirwa.

Spot on my dear, the levels of poverty in our country cannot accommodate the luxuries of tubes. If our people are trekking from Chilenje to town because they cannot afford to ride on a minibus, how do we even entertain the idea of a tube. How many people would be riding in these tubes?

As a nation,we need Clive and his knowledge and expertise to grow and develop our railway system.
its clear beyond resonable doubt that his critics are just jelous and are enemies of development and they hate new ideas of doing things.
Lets not frustrate Clive but give him all the necessary support for him to deliver accordingly.

Chirwa is his own worst enemy. Umunwe umo tausala inda, the old Bemba adage goes. No matter how smart, one man cannot solve the collosal problems ZR has. On the other hand i have read through the Clive’s CV and i have not seen any experience designing trains or managing a railway company. If his brilliance is based on the papers he has written, well then maybe he should teach engineering at the University of Zambia.

All well meaning Zambians should rally behind prof Clive. There is nothing wrong with his demand and Govt/ZR has the capacity to meet them just like Govt/ FAZ has the capacity to meet Renard’s demand. Development does not come on silver plate but from educated, skillful, experienced and well motivated workman’s ship. All organizations that pay their staff well are doing fine and far from collapse. Leave Prof Clive alone and concentrate on playing your row to develop this country

Mother Zambia, Where are we going? When is Zambia going to work up from its docility? It seems this Country has become a target of all sorts of crooks and International conmen. Sometime back during the Kaunda regime, you may recall that an international conman all suddenly appeared from nowhere and came to cheat Kaunda that he could make Diesel from grass, as usual, Zambians fell for the idea. Had it not been for the alertness of the late General Kriston Tembo (may his soul rest in peace), the Conman could have disappeared with millions of dollars from this Country.
Now this Conman Chirwa, comes bragging that he can construct an underground railway transport system and Overhead Electric trains and again Zambians with their docility nearly fell for his idea. Surely if common sense is all it takes, the Government should have first instituted some feasibility studies into this project to ascertain whether this idea was workable in this poor and impoverished Country.
Conman Chirwa is a heartless dwarf who deserves no mercy. I doubt if this Man has the right conscious and patriotism for this Country. By the way is Conman Chirwa a true Zambian citizen? This Man has his roots in the DR Congo . It is under stood that this man migrated from Congo and came to Zambia with his Father a Congolese when he was just a young boy. He changed his name to Chirwa so that he could benefit from the free education system during the Kaunda regime.
Shortly after the death of his Father, his Mother got married to a Kenyan Man where he had two brothers. It is not clear whether Chirwa’s Mother was a Kenyan or Zambian. So this explains Chirwa’s Congolese ascent. His greedy for money and wealth, with high life style of Heaven on Earth has landed him in big trouble and his integrity will never be the same in this country again. He has lost it all.

Imwe naimwe, Reanard is an expatriate. Infact, its not GRZ that pays his salary. His salary is not tax payers money. No wonder we are quiet. Zambia railways is a dying horse for it to be renting a 73, million apartment per month. His salary plus allowances is enough to pay a nurse’s pension!!
He even says that his rentals were reduced to 38 million. Thats still too high. He can get a nice apartment for 15 million in Kabulonga or olympia.

Sigh! I wonder if the author of this article and many other contributors that believe in this dreamer have actually taken time to look at his CV? There is no question that he is a qualified Professor in clashing whatever whatever but by no means is he a Manager of the proportion such as ZRL. It is this very reason of inexperience that the conflict between the Board and CEO has escalated to this level. Clive likes playing to the gallery and thus reason he rushed to media and cried wolf first.
As for the income he was promised – Clive was appointed by a Presidential decree and no figures was discussed at the time. However, he was replacing another CEO whose terms and condition was a known factor and it would not be far off to imagine that he was coming for a similar competitive market rate an not a Lottery that he presented an was turned down by the disbanded Board. Finally, if anyone can show that as a Lecturer in Bolton this man had an income of even close to £80,000 per annum please present us those facts (the most a Chancellor of a University will get is Circa £120,000 per annum. Now this Clive wants to be paid circa £30,000 per month – PLEASE!!
As for Renard or any sports personnel – you can’t compare apples with oranges.

Actually I believe the poeple mostly against Prof Chirwa are UPND cause he left them when they refused to accept Vice Presidency under Sata. It HH and UPND saying most of those things on Zambian Watchdog. It’s mostly bitterness. Just listen to the words they use, it’s pure Malice. And Prof Sassa says its music to his ears. Why should an unfortunate thing such as what has happened and ZR be music if its not being malicious.

What does his contract say? The problem with Zambians is that they have too much hate for each other. I suspect that the government has already agreed to these terms. This always happens in Africa. We do not know how to negotiate deals.Chirwa sounds like a great negotiator we need people like him on our side when we look at most of these investor contracts we keep signing in the mining industry. Not the average Zambian who does not dream further that a bag of Ubunga.

Can a dreamer accept a challenge to put his dream into reality knowing the cost to the country if the venture failed? Who wants a bad name? Most bloggers are fond of thinking for others: ” Who wil ride this train? Too expensive, etc” How many cars are on the Zambian road today? How many luxury coaches are ferrying people today? With fast trains like the one prof Chirwa wants to introduce, it means that tax payers money on road maintenance will be less as there will be less trucks on the road, less bus accidents like the one in Chibombo. And dual carriage railway will mean faster trains covering Lusaka to Ndola in less than four hours. That will be my favourite mode of transport!

Bullet trains run on electricity, so where is the overhead electric line? What about maintenance, did he design the workshop complete with washing devices. Stop dreaming, first rehabilitate, reconstruct and recondition what is at hand and then “rebase”. Anyone who has been to a Computer Graphic School can design that. My son used to design cars at his school using autocard and the rest!
