RB Wants The New Lusaka Stadium Named After Him

EMBATTLED former republican President Rupiah Bwezani Banda wants the new Lusaka stadium named after him, a source close to the embattled leader has disclosed to Tumfweko.com.

The source disclosed that Rupiah wants the ultra-modern stadium named after him because he is the one who initiated the project and lobbied assistance from the Chinese government for the construction of the mega structure.

Lusaka stadium: RB wants it to be named after him

The source claims Rupiah is of the view that since Levy Mwanawasa stadium in Ndola was named after the late President Mwanawasa, there is no way he can not be named after the Lusaka stadium which is under construction and almost complete.

The Lusaka Stadium will be handed over to government in June-July this year.

Tumfweko is suggesting that the new Lusaka Stadium be named after the late fallen heroes of 1993 Gabon Air Disaster, that the stadium be named as ‘April 28‘ in remembrance of the Chipolopolo team that perished in the Gabon Air Disaster on April 28, 1993.

Are you mad?We all love soccer!!Are you suggesting that each one of us be named after a stadium?I think April 28 would make more sense since the fallen heroes are even burried around that same area.

nonsense..what kind of a name is April 28th Stadium???Sounds boring than RB Stadium even though the later shouldn’t be the name. A name like Heroes Stadium is better because our soccer heroes are buried near there.

Yes indeed, April 28 sounds much better. Naming stadia after individuals is not a good thing at all, more so if the said people had nothing to do with soccer. The reasons advanced by RB as per the source of this story are not convincing. He nogotiated for it on behalf of the Zambian people, therefore he should let the Zambian people give it a name. The airports and the new hospital in Lusaka should revert to their original names as well.

While you give the stadima name also name the various sections after promient coaches that have coached Zambia.eg The Dickson Makwaza section(Wing). The Brightwell Banda wing, or the Dennis Liwewe commentary box,.
Be creative…not just the B wing, C wing grand stand….

Nothing wrong in retaining its original name “Independence Stadium”. You can incorporate the other suggested names as seating areas eg instead of Zone A you have “UCAR” for Chitalu, “Computer” for Alex Chola and so on. As for Rupiah he can wait until he dies before we can name anything after him
