Zambia, 4 Other Teams On Bye In COSAFA Preliminaries

Zambia and five other Southern African countries will be on bye for the first round of the 2013 Cosafa tournament.

The seeded teams for tonight’s draw to be held at the Ridgeway Southern Sun Hotel are host Zambia, Angola, South Africa and defending champions Zimbabwe.

According to the regional body, eight teams will take part in the preliminary round that will have two groups with Kenya and Tanzania being the seeded teams in the group draw.

The other two teams to be exempted from the group draw are Mozambique and Malawi.

The eight teams will know their opponents in the group draws in a tournament that will be held at Nkoloma and Godrey ‘Ucar’ Chitalu Stadium.

Group winners will join the six seeded teams for the quarterfinals on July 13 and 14 in Lusaka and Kabwe.

Arthur Davies Stadium will get a slice of the action when it hosts plate finals on July 16 and 18th for losers.

According to the preliminary fixture, the semi-final double header will be played at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium with July 20 being the big day for the finals at the same venue.

The Warriors of Zimbabwe are the defending champions after beating Zambia 3-1 in 2009.

Can someone simplify this jargon please. Zambia, RSA, Zim, Angola are seeded. also Kenya and Tanzania. Malawi and Mozambique are exempted from the draws. So who will be drawn if a tournament of few countries has all these exemptions? someone enlighted me please!

Tumfweko, have you now seen the shame that you are causing us Zambian journalists? You won’t lose anything by engaging a qualified scribe to edit your stories. I can do it for you without charge.
