Kambwili Justifies Fuel Increment, Says ‘We are Few Zambians Who Drive’

Dear Editor,

According to Minister Chishimba Kambwili’s comments on Radio Phoenix’s “Let The People Talk” programme today, he attributes the logic and wisdom of the PF government’s fuel subsidy removal to the fact that the subsidy was only benefiting “very few Zambians who drive” and the freed resources would therefore go towards development projects for the majority Zambians who don’t.

And this man expects right-thinking Zambians to believe such absurdity and his claim that Fr. Frank Bwalya is now mad and deceiving Zambians for expressing dissenting or divergent views from those of the PF government and for demonstrating political ambition?

The fact that Minister Kambwili does not seem to understand even the very basic economic implications of removing the fuel subsidy as well as the general knowledge Zambians have about the dismal performance of this PF government regarding the fulfillment of election promises speaks more about the minister’s mental capacity than it does about his disparaging comments against Fr. Frank bwalya!

Ba Kambwili, when the price of fuel goes up, it does not mean that only those who own cars will feel the impact. The increase in this vital commodity affects all sectors of the economy. Even the ones without without cars need to use buses, Bus fares will go up, all prices of all goods will go up. Thats an abnormal increase. Shame on you.

The money government uses to subsidise fuel comes from tax payers. So why are they bothered? Government money is the people’s money. What they should do is increase tax on laxuries i.e soft drinks, tobacco, alchohol. They can raise some money from toll gates and make tax on very old cars high.(This will help reduce carbon emissions and congetion) Leave subsidies alone.

Mr kambwili should jst keep quiet, he doesn’t know what he’s talking about, in the first place he doesn’t pay for the fuel he uses, and when gvnmt subsidise on fuel it prevents increaments on basic necesities, in shot fuel is what drives the economy of a country, its not about how many people drive in the country.

Dear Your Excellency Mr Chilufya Sata
Please kindly consider a new ministry in your cabinet. This ministry should look after all those people working at Bus Stops around the country popularly known as kaponyas.
The ministry should ensure these Kaponyas have their own newspapers, Radio Stations and TV which should explain simple things like how the petrol price will only affect few people who own cars. And the Minister for this portflio should be Chishimba Kambwili. He cant run any other ministry. Chanda Chimba could assist him.
