Commuters Cry Foul Over Hiked Bus Fares

The Commuters Rights Association of Zambia has expressed disappointment over the rush by bus operators to hike bus fares following the increase in fuel prices.

Speaking to Qfm, Association National Chairperson Aaron Kamuti says the KR 1 hike in bus fares by local transport operators is not fair for the commuters.

Mr. Kamuti says bus operators should have commuters at heart and be considerate when increasing the bus fares.

He says while the increment is inevitable in view of the increase in fuel prices, the increase by KR1 is too much.

Mr. Kamuti has implored bus operators to take their time and sit as stakeholders to see which way forward in the interest of both the commuters and the bus operators.

And some commuters talked to complained that the increase in bus fares compromises the PF’s more money in your pockets promise.

They say increase is not fair because they will be made to spend more on transport.

Bus operators have proposed a KR1 hike in bus fares for local buses following the increase in fuel prices by the government.
