CATHOLIC Church Vicar General for Mansa Fr Mambwe Mpasa says Frank Bwalya is no longer a priest because he cannot be a priest and president of a political party at the same time.
“It is wrong for people to call him president Fr Bwalya because our Canon Law does not allow us to involve ourselves in politics up to that extent. We cannot hold political offices and at the same time be priests. And I think this is an impression that should be corrected. If he is a president, then he should ask the church to be freed from priesthood,” he said.
“What has he seen in politics that makes him leave the holy priesthood? What services is he going to offer to the people that he couldn’t in priesthood? What is it, which is better than being a religious leader? My heart really bleeds to lose such an energetic young man,” Fr Mpasa said.
“I just hope and pray that my brother has not overrated himself. I have seen people leaving the pulpit for politics who have proved to be failures. I hope my brother has done his homework and is not overrating himself. The popularity he had as a priest is different from what he is going to have as a politician. He might have had a lot of following because people thought he was promoting and preaching justice and peace for them and they followed him. I pray that he has not been cheated by a few, who told him to form a political party” said Fr Mpasa.
And Zambia Episcopal Conference president Archbishop Ignatius Chama says Ndola Bishop Alick Banda gave his position on Bwalya a long time ago. He said reference should be made to the statement that was given by Bishop Banda on Bwalya sometime back.
According to the memorandum dated August 29, 2011, Bishop Banda ordered Bwalya not to act or represent the Catholic Church in any way during his indefinite leave, and further asked him not to perform any priestly duties, wear priestly attire and to be away from the presbytery during his leave.
Bishop Banda said the church had consented to Bwalya’s request and granted him indefinite leave of absence.
Bishop Banda advised Bwalya to remain obliged and maintain his celibacy until the competent ecclesiastical authority determines a new way of life
But Fr Bwalya says he will marry when he becomes president if there will be need to do so “I cannot marry but when I become president or before I become president, if it becomes clear that I need to marry, I will make the decision at that time,” he said. “……I am sure when I am in State House there will be big headlines saying ‘president Frank Bwalya marries’.”

When he was supporting PF, PF members did not mind if he was a father. Now that he is speaking the Truth that PF has failed people are complaining. to all PF members the truth hurts. Fr Bwalya continue speaking the truth and fighting for the poor because that is what God wants you to do

According to church history priest used to marry until after the council of trent introduced celibacy as a well of steming ecclesiastical abuses. It was not and it is not the best solution to resolve issues affecting the Holy Church. The church should coperate with God’s grace. The family was ordained by God, therefore, no man or institution has the power and authority to overide what God declared to be , “Very Good.” Bwalya has the natural right to be single or to marry. No institution has the moral authority to dictate to him when, where, etc to marry. Likewise Bwalya should be mindful of his obligations past, present and future. He should not use the church as the spring board for social ladder clumbing. The harder the come, the harder they fall. Those who have ears let them listen! The earth is beautiful, I love this planet. Lets celebrate family and life. Ciao!

@Church History
Celibacy was not introduced as a way of stopping Ecclesiastical abuses as you state.
In the 12th Century, priests were forbidden to marry in order to ensure that money remained with the Church and was not inherited.
Pope Benedict VIII in the 11th century officially declared that priests were banned
from taking on wives or mistresses in order to protect church property
rights.
If you look a little deeper, you’ll find that money, not God is behind a lot of religious dogmas.

The word ‘prodigal’ means wasteful. The prodigal son in Jesus’ parable wasted his inheritance. I haven’t seen what Frank Bwalya has wasted so far. Is it that the author confuses the word ‘prodigal’ with ‘rebellious?’ Journalism teyakunyelako ifisushi.

I am saddened by the stance taken by our beloved priest (Fr Bwalya. We thought he was merely speaking for the poor and the less privileged in the society.

We have only One Zambia to leave in. The only home we must protect, for our families, for our friends and for every Zambians. It dosen’t matter if we voted for SATA/PF, once we notice that there are signs of decay we shuold act and not wait untel the thing becomes contagious. Its is a yaer and a half (after countless 90 days)PF is still telling us and explaning what they are going to do. Am still thanking GOD for having removed R Band, now am asking God to help us find a true President and leaders who care about this nation.Kambwili grow up. Do you know why you are stuffed in ministry of sports?

Be careful not to vote for an ‘alternative’ just because you want to teach the current a lesson.
Because people are disgruntled with the ‘current’, the alternative gets a free pass even though he may be an unsuitable leader.
I am frankly surprised at the support being accorded to this priest, this early after his declaration. Politically, he is an unknown.
How do you know he would make a good leader??? Being a good priest (or person) does not automatically translate to being a good president.
Shame on people lauding father Bwalya as president before he’s even presented his party’s manifesto!!!
