Opposition Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) has challenged President Michael Sata to rescind the decision to lift fuel and maize subsidies or resign from being head of state.
MMD president Nevers Mumba says it is immoral and hypocritical for the PF government to continue implementing capitalist policies when they draw up a socialist contract with the Zambian people before forming government.
Dr. Mumba has charged that if the PF wants to govern the country with a type of governance that leans to that of capitalism contrary to what it promised the Zambia people to govern with, it should call for a general election and ask the Zambian people to vote for it on a different platform and contract.
Dr. Mumba notes that the PF won the 2011 general election on the premise that it will implement socialist policies that will reduce the cost of living of the people but that the capitalist leaning it is embarking on is a deception that Zambian people should not accept.
The MMD president was speaking at press briefing in Lusaka this afternoon.
Meanwhile the MMD president has condemned in the strongest terms the harassing of MMD members by the PF cadres at Lusaka City Market this morning.
Dr. Mumba has expressed sadness with the continued attempt by the ruling PF to try to stifle the expression of the Zambian people through the practice of violent politics as was exhibited today when a mob of PF cadres pounced on four MMD officials.
And one of the MMD members that was harassed bowman Lusambo has confirmed having been abducted for about one, a period in which he was forced to support government’s move to lift fuel subsidies.

They have been cheating themselves in away of consolation. They were saying HH for president come 2011, failing to read between the lines they missed, now they are saying HH and NEVERS 2016 state house failing to umderstand political winds.Only Tsunami like political party can remove PF from power as at now. because he is creating roads where there was none, creating universities closer the rural pipo. Infact every province will have atleast one or two universities, every province will have a NATIONAL tv stations for the first time since God created Zambia. Sata is taking development closer to the pipo by creating more districts. For the first time we have a president whenever he opens his mouth, mentions about the poor majority. Foe the first we have a president who doesn’t boast about being number one citizen a humble person. For the first time we have a president who moves in a convoy of lets say three to four cars and for the first time we have a president who doesn’t boast and drinks wanter which the locals drink whenever is on tour. What a man!!!

sata is the man, even God sometimes makes us go through pain in order for us to be happy and learn, if the removal of the subsidies is really set to purpose, then we might as well accept the short tearm efects it brings along

Ba Mumba na ba Hakainde, what we want is a solution to the problems as a country. We do’nt want politics where you only speak if PF a makes a debatable decision which others can support and others can oppose. Before the removal of subsidies you were all quite waiting for the chance to pounce on the slightes of chances.Okay, subsidies have been removed and the gorvernment has given its reasons and the private and public media are carrying adverts of the same and some of us who had a different oppinion have taken a different position because of the same adverts. Why ca’nt you argue by providing the best options from the explanation given so far so that we can a have different view from the opposition as well.HH is busy supporting demos and offering no alternatives so that he substatiants his support for the students demos.Tell us your solutions we want to hear alternative views but non is coming meaning the PF is doing the best that any responsible government can do for mother ZAMBIA. KEEP QUITE IF YOU HAVE NO OPTIONS ON CERTAIN CRITICAL DECISIONS.

As clear as that mr truth2. The so called intellectuals have become dunderheads in terms of understanding this issue.Their aim is now to incite the pipo so that they rise against dully and democratically elected govt. No altanative just criticising,no brains.

The sooner Nevers and HH realises that Austerity measures are a worldwide thing the better. The pill may be hard, but even the common man like me now knows that free things or superficial prices hurt the economy sooner than later. Ask KK. Sorry you cant gain popularity over this ba Evangeslist. I think for your deception, you may never get anywhere near corridors of power ba Mumba

Simple basic economics, there is no country on this planet which have subsidies perprtually. Its like you ve a broken leg and then after a week you say my leg has healed without testing it on the ground. We cannot be saying zambian economy is doing better without testing it on the stand alone by removing these subsidies. That why even if the economy can grow lets say by 7%GDP it cannot be felt or trickle down to citizenly.

you seem to know some basics of economics ,but real economics is that the rise in the GDP indicates the better standards of living for the countrizen. Why remove subsidies when 95% of the zambian only have one meal in a day,65%are unemployed.45% of the children do not go to school.what is the duty of the goverment if not to improve the living standards of its people.what is economics if it does not to make sense of the universal theory of survival of the fittest. what is development if it does not develop our sense of survival.any let me not go much into philosophy

Nevers Mumba. How about you disband MMD for causing the Zambian people untold misery for 20 years during MMD’s misrule? I told Bwalya not to keep his cunning uncle when he had no shelter and his own sister wouldn’t have him in her house. Now look what nonsense you have brought upon us!
