Lusaka District Patriotic Front says the opposing of removal of fuel and maize subsidies by opposition political parties and some civil society organizations is only a demonstration of their fear that such funds would be channeled to tangible developmental projects which in turn popularize the ruling party.
Speaking at a media briefing in Lusaka today, Lusaka district chairman Goodson Banda says the opposition and the civil society should also understand that maize subsidies have been a recipe for economical inequality in the society as they only benefited the already well to do middlemen and not the targeted vulnerable groups.
He says the resources saved from subsidies will help government train more people and create more jobs in different sectors which in turn add to the coffers of the government.
Mr. Banda adds that the opposition and civil society should allow the Patriotic Front government to implement its programs and criticize thereafter when it becomes necessary.
He has further challenged the media to analyze the impact of the subsidies’ removal so that people in the country are not misled by politicians with unclear motives.

The oppositions only think about winning elections, they are not concerned about the poor majority. Within three years, subsidy removal can make Zambia a bread basket but pipo like Hakainde and Nevers only think about short term measure which is to win elections at all cost.
