Renard’s Local Boys Face Namibia

The local Chipolopolo boys will this afternoon be accorded a final chance to impress national coach Herve Renard when they face Namibia away in Windhoek in an international friendly.

Renard has pledged to draft any high flying local star in the squad that will face Lesotho on June 8 in a Brazil 2014 World Cup qualifier.

The locals had an earlier chance against Zimbabwe on April 28 in a Gabon Memorial clash they won 2-0 to strengthen their case for consideration in the senior squad.

Two-goal hero against Zimbabwe Bonwell Mwape is expected to lead the attack alongside club mate Alex Ng’onga who apart from a low conversion rate can be quite a handful for defenders.

With Roderick Kabwe who was expected to take the right wing the onus could lie on youngster Julius Situmbeko who during the training sessions has been singled out for curling set pieces by the technical bench.

Senior squad player Mukuka Mulenga will have a chance to light up the midfield with his wizardly but has the tendency to disappear on an average day.

Hard working Misheck Chaila and Zesco’s Kondwani Mtonga will be competing for the holding midfield role although Kondwani could also partner Christopher Munthali in central defence as the technical bench has in training toyed with that partnership.
Jimmy Chisenga and Fackson Kapumbu will settle for the right and left wingbacks respectively.

With Danny Munyau dropped Renard could give the goalkeeping role to Nchanga Rangers’ Rabosn Mcheleng’nga who is being touted as a possible shot stopper for the senior team.

Namibia will however provide a tougher challenge as coach Roger Palmgren is looking to posting a positive result before the home crowd.

Palmgren would want to impress on his first assignment since taking over the reins of the Namibia job.

He has named five professionals to signal the seriousness of the match. The South Africa based players called are goalkeepers Virgil Vries of Maritzburg United, Ephraim Tjionge of Milano United and Amazulu defender Willem Mwendihanga.

Others are midfielders Petrus Shitembi of Pretoria University and Heini Isaacs (Maritzburg United).

Renard is expected to name his World Cup squad after the Namibia assignment.
The Chipolopolo will set up camp on May 28 on the Copperbelt.
