There is no excuse for Zesco to continue loadshedding- Chikwanda

Finance Minister Alexander Chikwanda has challenged the power utility company ZESCO to work extra hard and ensure that Zambia becomes the biggest earner in power export in the region.

Speaking shortly before touring the Kariba North bank power station in Siavonga today, Mr. Chikwanda said the Patriotic Front government will not hesitate to provide funding to the ZESCO to in order to address the power deficit in the country.

Mr. Chikwanda observed that Zambia has a comparative advantage to supplying enough power to other regions which cannot be matched with other countries, hence the need for ZESCO to work extremely hard and put Zambia on top class.

The Finance Minister also noted that there is no excuse for the power utility company to continue loadsheding when it has all the equipment to make it necessary to save enough power at their main stations.

And ZESCO Managing Director Cyprian Chitundu affirmed that ZESCO is on course with ensuring that all the works at Kariba north bank are done on time to cut down on loadshading in the country.

Mr. Chitundu pointed out that the project to rehabilitate and upgrade the four generating units is already completed and that it has added 30 mega watts to each unit bringing the total installed capacity to 720 mw.

    Zesco and PF.

Both are failing to satisfy the country.

Hopefully one will be history in 2016.

Zesco IS doing it’s best and very soon loadshedding will be a thing of the past. Let us give credit where it’s due. Expansion of generating stations and upgrading of substations are going on nearly everywhere in the Country. The only problem we have as Zambians is that we think massive investment or development can come overnight.

      Chik,
You are very right. I work for Zesco and i know how much we have achieved and very soon Loadshedding will come to an end. We are doing alot to address this Problem. If you want to know how a crocodile lives in water, ASK the Hippo meaning if you want to know more about Zesco, ASK those in Zesco and they will definitely tell you what is on the ground. We as Zesco employees do not like Loadshedding either. So what’s better Making the whole System Collapse OR Loadshedding and have the existing equipment intact ? After all, loadshedding will come to pass one day.

The problem is that these pipo want the day of sowing, that very day should be a day of harvesting, where on earth. But for sure time will come when loadshedding will be a thing of the passed and that day is near.

@NEL, we are not interested in knowing more about Zesco or crocodiles or hippos. We already know enough. What we are interested in is the end product: amalaiti, magesi. How you generate it – whether muswa fye ku cimuti or mutapa fye mu Kariba – fyenu.
