Siavonga Teachers Abandon Classes For Taxi Driving

TEACHERS in Siavonga have abandoned classes and taken to driving pirate taxis.
And residents of chief Simamba in Siavonga have complained of hunger in their area which had put the lives of people on antiretroviral treatment at risk.
Meanwhile, chiefs Simamba and Sinadambwe of Siavonga have thanked government for its decision to remove fuel and maize subsidies.
Speaking when Southern Province Minister Daniel Mukombwe addressed a gathering at chief Simamba’s palace yesterday, headman Munyama complained that teachers in his area had abandoned teaching and resorted to driving pirate taxis.
“Civil servants are a problem in Siavonga, in my area Munyama, most teachers have acquired loans and bought themselves vehicles which now they are pirating at the expense teaching the children, the clinics are unmanned,” he said “When you try to approach the teachers they say they are only answerable to the Ministry of Education and no one else,” complained headman Munyama.
And speaking during the same gathering, headman Musika appealed to Munkombwe to urgently address the hunger crisis in the area which had posed a danger to people on ART.
”My appeal is that you consider distributing relief food immediately and not November as earlier announced, our people will die of hunger especially those on ART who need a lot of food because of the strong drugs they are taking,” he pleaded.
Meanwhile, chiefs Simamba and Sindambwe of Siavonga have commended the government for its decision to remove fuel and maize subsidies.
Speaking at their respective palaces when Mukombwe called on them, the chiefs said they were happy with the decision taken by the government because the decision had not affected them in any way.
“The removal of subsidies is a welcome, it has not affected us because we never benefitted in any way, people in villages don’t own vehicles they walk most of the time. When fertilisers come in for distribution, it still benefits people who are able so those who are crying are those who were stealing because they have been hit hard on their stomach,” said chief Simamba.

I find it funny that the chiefs are supporting the removal of subsidies on fuel and maize and in the same breath request government to provide relief maize to their subjects. They must be naive or ****** or both!

Relief maize is not subsidized maize. If govt should stock our hospitals with medicines and be able to provide relief maize to needy area of Zambia,it has to spend on that. Now,were will the money to spend on these vital issues come from if govt continues topping up fuel in my car?
It’s better govt buys medicines for hospitals than topping up on my fuel money so as to save lives. I will minimize, economize and plan my movements well since govt is no longer topping up on my fuel money.
